We all congratulated Caleb the idiot for getting a date with a hot girl for the only time in his life. The guys just whooped like fucking gorillas though, and some of the girls just gushed and screamed.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Alysa whispered to me, making sure no one would hear us.
I swallowed some butter beer and looked up at her. "What?"
"He's just going to go on a date with some random girl he doesn't know? Kind of suspicious." She said looking toward the kitchen where Thalassa disappeared into.
"Well it's just one date Lys. We don't know anything about her but...we'll make him tell us about her." I said with a small laugh. She didn't laugh.
"Okay." Is all she said. I felt like there was more to this situation, but I brushed it aside for now and rejoined the conversation revolving around Caleb.
Later on, we were just driving around town, road trip style. Just looking for something to do.
"OH MY GOD STOP." Sophia suddenly screeched.
Tyler brought the vehicle to a sudden stop and looked around in a panic, thinking he'd almost hit a car or something.
"WHAT?!" He yelled, all of us freaking out.
"THERES A BASKETBALL COURT OH MY GOD." She yelled excited.
Tyler banged his head on the wheel and Rianna rubbed her temples.
"Mate." Rianna said.
"LETS GO BITCH." Sophia yelled. With that she grabbed a random basketball out of the trunk and raced to the court.
"Where the fuck does everyone keep finding this random crap?" I say starting to jog alongside Alysa to catch up with Sophia, who was already free throwing at the court.
"Pulled it out of her ass." Alysa replied rolling her eyes and smiling.
I laughed and stopped at the court.
"WE'RE DOING TEAMS. Ok Ashlyn, Nathan, Tyler, you're with me. Jo, Alysa, Rianna, and Caleb, your a team." Sophia split us up.
"WAIT BUT MY TEAM SUCKS." Jo whined like a girl.
Alysa, Caleb, and Rianna all turned to him at once, and Alysa smacked him over the head.
"I don't care. I don't want Alysa on my team. She sucks." Sophia said, laughing.
"Yeah. Well. You...did seven minutes in heaven with Jo." Alysa replied pointing her finger at Sophia and raising her eyebrows.
"HOTPOCKETS, I SWEAR..." Sophia said with her eyebrows raised and her hand raised. Hotpockets was kind of a nickname for Alysa, since her last name was Kotsakis, it kinda sounded alike. Plus this one teacher called her that in middle school when he was taking roll the first time and we never let her live it down. They started walking toward each other and so I hit Alysa behind her head.
"Knock it off." I said. "We're about to play a game and I'm about to disappoint my mother." I said turning around and walking into position.
Sophia and Jo walked to the middle, since it was kinda an unspoken thing they'd be captain of our teams or whatever. Tyler did referee job and he tossed the ball into the air. Time slowed down for a second as Jo and Sophia both jumped for the ball. Jo caught it and then time sped up again. Jo looked around, eyes in focus, and tipped it off to Rianna, who caught it and dribbled to our court, while Sophia crowded her. She tried to pass it back to Jo, so I stood in front of him and tried blocking her pass. She threw it and I surprisingly caught it.
"YEAH PRINCESS." Sophia screamed moving in my line of sight.
"WHAT, WERE YOU AIMING FOR HER?! SHES THIS SHORT RIANNA." Joseph yelled, making a short motion with his hands, frustrated as he jogged behind me. I dribbled and turned to see Alysa on my heels. Sophia was waving from behind Rianna, who was trying to block her. Caleb was trying to block Jo and Alysa. I blinked and assessed what to do quickly as time slowed again. I dribbled and ran toward defense, and I looked to my right and passed it to Nathan. He caught it and made a bank shot. It went in and we cheered while Alysa's team whined.
"Good job Princess! But tie your damn hair up it's flying everywhere." Nathan laughed, high-fiving me as I stuck my tongue out. Princess was a nickname that either Sophia or Nathan had given me a long time ago. I can't remember who, but it stuck and everyone calls me that sometimes.
"Ok come let's go!" Alysa shouted, approaching the middle court.
"By all means." Joseph said, smirking and gesturing for Sophia to pass her the ball.
She blinked. "You sure? Have you ever seen Alysa play?" She said holding the ball against her hip.
"She seems confident." Jo said shrugging, throwing his hands in the air and turning around to walk to his position.
Sophia threw the ball to Alysa, and it slipped out of her hands and she chased after it a little then picked it up as Sophia snorted a laugh and mumbled to herself.
I tied my long hair and walked to position. I looked at Caleb, then Jo, then Rianna and Alysa.
Alysa started dribbling and jogging slowly, looking for someone to pass it to. I blocked off Rianna, Nathan blocked Jo, and Sophia started charging Alysa. Alysa desperately tried to pass it to Rianna, but Sophia managed to snatch it instead because Rianna did some weird fetal crouch or something.
"Goddammit Rianna." I said laughing and jogging next to Caleb.
Sophia passed to Tyler and he dribbled to defense. Jo blocked his path and Tyler passed back to Sophia. Sophia dribbled to the net and Jo frickin jumped suddenly in her path and she ran into him, both of them falling backwards.
"Charge!" Jo yelled.
"That was not you dumbass! You jumped right in front of me." Sophia argued, rubbing her legs where she fell.
"If you run into me while I'm standing in position that's a fucking charge Sophia." He said crossing his arms.
The argument was starting to heat up and Sophia's eyes did that thing where they narrowed when she was pissed.
"Jo! You have to be in an established position. That's like saying you were standing in the middle of the road when a car ran you down when you actually JUST JUMPED IN FRONT OF IT." I said yelling the last part in his face and making hand gestures, my face heating up.
"Well how do you know what classifies an established position huh?" Alysa said matter-of-factly.
"Stay out of this Alysa." Sophia said shooting Alysa a look.
"READ THE FRICKIN HANDBOOK SOPHIA!" Jo spat back, irritated.
"READ A BOOK, HYDE. YOU DONT WANNA MAKE ME ANY MORE ANGRY RIGHT NOW YOU MOTHER—" and I couldn't understand the rest of what she said because she just started ranting and swearing in Spanish or some shit while getting up in his face and pointing at him threateningly while he argued back and told her to shut up.
I took a step back and giggled a little to Alysa, because they were both getting really mad and it was kinda funny. Sophia was notorious for her wild temper. She could usually keep it in check, but like she always said, "you do not wanna see me get REALLY angry."
It quickly turned from funny to awkward when he grabbed her waving arms and kissed her.
"Ohhhhh k then." I said, my eyes widening.
"WHAT THE DUCK." Rianna screamed, jumping like a flamingo and...I don't even know what she was doing.
Sophia's face looked...taken aback, and they stood, kissing, like that for a while.
I looked around. "Should we go or...?" I whispered to Alysa.
"I feel like I shouldn't be watching this." Alysa whispered back.
"Watching our mother kiss Joseph? No that calls for therapy." I whispered to back.
Caleb came jogging back from the car with water bottles in his hands.
"WHAT THE FU—" he swore dropping all the damn water bottles.
I walked over to him. "Dammit Webb why you gotta be so weird." I said smacking his head and grabbing a water bottle he dropped.
