I sighed as I scraped the rest of my food into the fire.
Then I felt a small smile creep up into my face. I had asked Annabeth to spar with me earlier. She had agreed. And now was the time to go. I ran back to my cabin and grabbed Katoptris, then decided to change. I was wearing an oversized CHB shirt, and I decided to wear a black T shirt, like those ones that were a bit skin tight but not too much where you suffocated. I decided to leave in my shorts, because why not?
I then ran to where we would meet. Annabeth was already there, stretching her arms. She looked up at me and grinned. She was wearing a gray crop top and just regular jeans. I shrugged and she walked over to me. "Good luck. You'll need it." She said. I raised an eyebrow. "Is that so, Wise Girl? Because I am SURE that I WILL beat you." I said back. Her gray eyes scanned me for a minute. She had a small-ish sword next to her as her chosen weapon. I patted Katoptris and Annabeth laughed softly. "We'll see about that." She said softly. Then, quick as a flash, she grabbed her sword and went up behind me, wrapping me in a small choke hold. I laughed softly. "Hey, not fair!" I said. She laughed, flipping her sword and catching it. "Do you seriously expect the monsters to yell, '3, 2, 1, fight!' in a real battle?" She asked. I shrugged and slowly unsheathed my dagger. "No, of course not, Annabeth! What makes you think-" I suddenly stomped on her foot and shoved her arm off me, pointing my blade to her throat. "As I was saying, what makes you think that?" I asked smugly. She sighed in fake defeat, which made me let my guard down. She suddenly knocked Katoptris out of my hand with the butt of her sword and swept me off my feet. LITERALLY. She caught my hand before I fell to the ground, and brought me up eye level to herself. I then suddenly decided to play her own game. I had learned this move from Annabeth herself. I smiled at her and winked, trying to distract her, then I grabbed her arm and put my other arm on her other shoulder. I then proceeded to judo flip her, and snorted when she let out a small yell of protest. She recovered quickly though. But I had retrieved Katoptris. She grinned at me and wiped her mouth, which had slight blood coming out of the corner. She had bitten her lip WAY too hard. I sucked in a breath through my teeth and pointed to her bloody, tainted lip. "Sucks to be you, i guess."
She picked up her sword and struck. I blocked it with my dagger and she quickly struck my torso, where I was unprotected. She knocked my gut and I staggered back. I sent her a strained but true grin. "Oh, it's on, Annie." She wiped the corner of her mouth again. "Annie? Really?" She asked, deflecting a swing from my dagger. I nodded as I swung around and sliced my blade, shutting my eyes. I really didn't want to hurt her. She grunted, and I opened one eye. I had sliced a little of her torso, and she grinned at me painfully. "Sorry!" I said, dropping my dagger. "Chill out, Pipes. It's not like I'm gonna die by YOU, anyways." She said, lunging towards me. I immediately regretted dropping my weapon, as she had her own blade ready. I instinctively dodged and grabbed the blade, which was at least one inch from my face, grabbing the blade with my palms squishing the blade down. Annabeth looked mildly impressed. "You're lucky I haven't charmspoken you yet." I warned. She laughed. "Is that a threat?" She asked, slicing her blade unexpectedly. I squealed like a baby, very undignified, and I felt the blade slice my side. I winced in pain. Apparently Annabeth took this as a chance to kick me off the ground. She swept a kick under me and I fell. I got up and lunged for my dagger. I barely dodged Annabeth and I went up behind her. I sprang up and held Annabeth in a choke hold, my blade close to her throat. She was breathing heavily. Then she dropped her sword and judo flipped me. She dropped me on my back, knocking the wind out if me. I groaned and she turned me over into my stomach. She pinned my arms behind my back and I groaned in defeat. "I'M GOOD! GOOD. AND ALSO DONE." I said. Annabeth whooped. Then she got off me and helped me up. "You're a worthy opponent." She said formally, shaking my hand.
I think we both knew that we had both gone easy on each other.
I suddenly felt my side hurt where she sliced me. "Yeah. Now let's go fix up these... tiny wounds?" I said, offering her my hand. She stared at my outstretched hand and I widened my eyes. "Oh. Sorry, that as out of habit. You know, when we were weeping and crying over our break ups with Persassy and Chuck Norris." I said. She laughed. "Awesome. Let's go fix up these cuts, yeah?" She asked. I nodded and she outstretched her hand. I looked up at her. "Are you actually serious?" I asked. She dropped her hand. "Oh. Sorry." Her hand drifted back to her side and she winced. I rolled my eyes. I took her hand and interlaced it with mine. "Fine. Better? Let's go." I said. She turned slightly red. "Alright, alright, fine, fine, fine, sassy pants." she said. I groaned. "Wait, no. Sassy shorts. Yeah, because you literally wear those same pair of shorts every day."
I groaned out loud and she snorted. "I'm gonna shut you up. Like, how in the whole HADES do you come up with that nonsense? I'm literally going to lose– die, even– because of that one terrible attempt of a joke." I ranted. She shrugged. "At least you don't drool in your sleep." She said. I rolled my eyes. "I'm really gonna have to shut you up now." I warned. "And how will you do that, Miss McLean?" She asked. "Like this." I turned to her and stood on my toes (shut up, i'm short, i know, okay?). Then I kissed her cheek. Her eyes widened and she turned slightly red. "You left me no choice."
"Wh- what?"
"That's what you get for making me physically feel my I.Q. drop by that one attempt of a joke."
"Y-yeah. I think you succeeded on your goal, though." she mumbled. I rolled my eyes. "Come on, let's go get ourselves cleaned up. Do you have bandages in your cabin or something?" I asked. She stayed still. I sighed loudly. "Gods, who am I kidding? Of course you do. You're Annabeth Chase." I said. She stayed still, her eyebrows scrunched together and her mouth pressed into a tight line. Her eyes had a slight faraway look in her eyes and she had a familiar look in her face. She was thinking.
I tugged her hand and she shook her head and looked at me. "Oh. Right. Bandages. Clean up. Yeah. Cool. Let's go. Sure."
We walked to the Athena Cabin and when I barged in, hand in hand with her, everyone looked at us weirdly, except Malcolm. He had a small, smug smile plastered on his face. I rolled my eyes at him and we walked to her bed. "Come on, Annabeth." She nodded and she grabbed bandages from a large bag stationed under her bed. She dug inside and took out some gauze pads and bandages and set them on her bedside table.
The whole cabin was silent and were looking at us. Annabeth rolled her eyes. "Guys, you do know that we are well aware of you staring deep into our souls right?" She asked. They looked away and mumbled an apology. Annabeth shrugged. I took the bandages and began wrapping my side. I rubbed off the slight blood running off the edge and finished wrapping myself off. Annabeth did the same and we finished.
We walked outside and passed everyone, who became oddly silent as we passed by. I gave Annabeth a confused look, but she only shrugged. It was until we passed Percy and Jason that they pointed something out. Percy pointed to our hands and we both looked down. They were still tightly interlocked and we both jumped apart about eight feet. When everyone stopped laughing at us (mostly because Annabeth was giving them hardcore death threats, way to go), we walked closer to each other. We passed Zeus' Fist soon, and were both a bit surprised at how far we walked. "Wow." I breathed.
Annabeth nodded and we sat down next to the statue, right next to each other. It was still sunny, but the sun was falling quickly. The sky was showing tints of purple. Had we been training for so long? I shrugged to myself.
I felt my eyes droop slightly and I closed my eyes. I took a deep breath and felt myself relax. I tried not to, but I fell asleep. The last thing I remembered before falling asleep was my head falling onto Annabeth's shoulder and then I completely blacked out.
