40. I'm Sorry

After that dramatic encounter, I decide to talk to Vex, who was (by my knowledge, still in the same room as before) still there, hopefully. I stood up and made my way down, my back no longer pained like it did before, it was neutral, and I hoped it would stay that way until I got to Vexeras room. I headed out of my room, trying to keep a low profile, however, a little jaguar commented on me and said, almost yelling "isn't that the guy from yesterday dad, you know, the one who bled down the hall" then I heard his father say "that's not nice Leo, you shouldn't comment on other people like that, he could be going tbrough some tough stuff right now. It's rude to say things like that", other than that, I managed to get through without to much attention. I stopped outside Vexs' door, I thought about what I was going to say.

I knocked on the door, I stood back as I heard footsteps approaching, the door swung inwards, showing Vexera. She had bloodshot eyes, and her dress that she had been wearing had bloodstains on it, this was the first real time I saw Vexera head to tail since the shooting. She almost started crying again "why did you do that?" she said wrapping her arms around me, her tail circled around behind her she started back  up "that is the most stupid thing I have ever heard. 'He pulled a bullet out of his back'! how the fuck am I going to live this down, everyone thinks you're crazy, and they think I'm crazy and-", "you believe them?" I interjected "you know, the smartest person I know said something, something I'll never forget, 'don't believe them if you believe that you know'", she looked at me, clearly confused "I don't remember saying that" she said. "that's because you didn't, your mother did" I said with a smile.

She giggled at that, and, remembering before, I automatically came in to hug her "Vexera, please don't leave me. I don't know what came over me, I just..." I recalled seeing the devil, I shivered at the uncanny resemblance between him and 'Dr Cook'. I flattened my ears, Vex noticed and said "you know... they do have cameras" she said pointing behind me from the hug, I broke off and said "lets go in here" gesturing to the interior of the room. We went inside and the first thing I noticed was that there was a television, I went back in for the hug "I'm sorry... for everything, I can't think straight. There is way too many things that I have to deal with, and I am sorry that you have to see me like this" I said, letting go of her. She stood back and said "what kind of things?", This made me think, what was I going to tell her? Hey Vex, don't freak out, but a guy wants to kill me and he is in the hosptal at this second. He is the same person that almost killed us yesterday. No, couldn't say that, she would freak out.

Several Months Later

"Good news Mr Doe, you will make a full recovery, but, check in yearly, or if you have back pain" the general practitioner said. I had been going to the GP for a while, as I didn't feel safe in hospital. I finally made it back to Australia, and I felt releived to be back. I can do my job, get paid and fly at the same time. They had moved some fighter jets to Darwin RAAF base so that we could fly down here, good decision, if you ask me, but I do tend to be biased at times.
