I dropped the food tray and ran out the door as fast as I could. I was a track star at my high school, so it wasn't hard for me to catch up to him. He made a break for it to his car but as I ran I reached into my back jean pocket, there was one thing that wasn't in my jacket.
The hood was down so I jumped over the seats of the car. I stood straight up in the driver's seat as Dallas nearly ran into me face to face. I held my knife out and flicked it open to where it was a centimeter away from his face and kept my grip steady, "You think if I don't hesitate pulling a switch on a Soc then I'll have a problem pulling one on a hood?"
Dallas dropped my jacket and held his hands in the air, "You caught me."
"Damn straight I did." I hissed
"You know, if you promise to keep your behaviour straight then we quite possibly might be able to have a friendship here Dallas Winston." I said as I continued to hold the knife to his face
"You're seriously considering staying near me after I tried to rob you?" Dallas asked
"You weren't taking anything anyways." I lied
"You think I didn't know you have $5000 worth in that jacket?" Dallas said
I reached over without looking away from him or lowering my blade and flipped open the console of the car. I reached down and felt the unmistakable plastic of a gun, and grabbed the heater to swap it's position with the switch. I was so lucky there was actually something in that console and it wasn't just a dumb conscious thing. "And you didn't think I knew you've got some sensitive cargo with you?"
Dallas looked at the gun and swallowed, hard. "I can either blow your head off, turn your fugitive ass in, or keep the gun with my eye on you at all times, take your pick."
"So you're saying you'll continue hanging around me-"
"As long as you give me your word and if you break it then your head gets blown off. Whatever choice you make, I'm keeping the gun." I interrupted
Dallas deeply exhaled and thought for a moment. "Lower the heater, Ivy."
"Your word." I threatened
"I will not try and pull any crap on you from now on, alright?" Dallas said a bit louder
"Mean it!" I nearly yelled
"I will never touch your things or manipulate you as long as it means I can keep living without a bullet through my head!" Dallas promised even louder
I lowered the gun and flicked my knife back secure and into my pocket. "The jacket." I snapped
Dallas picked up my jacket and I yanked it from his hand. Never was I letting his charm get the best of me again. I sat in the passenger's seat again and stuck the heater in my jacket once I put it back on. "How'd you know I had the money?" I asked
"Its peaking out of your jacket like a shooting star." Dallas answered
I looked and tucked the money in my jacket more. It was fifty $100 bills, I should really be more careful with what I do with it. "I don't get it..." Dallas mumbled as he closed the car door behind him
"Don't get what?" I asked
"I literally just tried to rob you...and you still want to stick around me." Dallas answered
"Got a problem with me?" I asked
"Its just...why would you do that?" Dallas asked as he looked me in the eye, trying to come up with any type of explanation possible
I shrugged, "I look at people differently than others do. I look at the people who do me wrong and keep them around...everyone deserves second chances do they not?"
"Anyone I've ever mugged or stolen from either threatened me and left or let me run. I don't understand why you wouldn't have shot me." Dallas said
I didn't understand it entirely either, but there was something in me that said I needed to keep this one around. "I will if you don't keep to your word. I'm very particular about that." I threatened
Dallas shook his head and sighed with frustration, he was trying to figure me out. Knowing by past experiences, I don't think he ever will. That made me smile to myself, but then I realized I was in his exact position. Sometimes I didn't understand myself either.
Dallas started the car and started driving off again, "What do you want from me then?"
"Excuse me?" I asked
"Do you need me for something?" Dallas asked, almost frustrated
"Well since you asked," I thought, "I'm going to need someone around to show me my way around here until I can figure out how to live on my own. So consider yourself my chauffeur until further notice."
"Are you going to hold me against my will for this as well?" Dallas asked sarcastically
I liked the sound of that so I nodded, "Sure why not."
"I was kidding..." Dallas sighed
I sarcastically smiled to myself and joked, "Get used to be Dally Winston, cause you've got yourself a roadie."
