In this story, James is better at giving love advice; he's the one who told Remus the best way to express his feelings towards Sirius was kissing him, at a party, in front of fifty Gryffindors. It should have worked, but things tend to happen the way we've never wanted them to.
The Common Room was full of scents: a bit of alcohol from the Butterbeer and the Firewhisky Marlene Douglas had brought, chocolate from the cookies the house elves had prepared and smoke from the fire burning in the chimney. In other words, it was a typical party in the Gryffindor Tower at 11 o'clock, in a warm night of April.
Remus was next to the window talking to James, who had an arm around Lily's shoulders, and watching Sirius laughing with two girls and a boy in the crowd.
'Still looking at him, mate?' James asked.
Remus sighed and got his eyes off Sirius, taking another sip from his Butterbeer. 'I can't help it,' he said. 'I've been hopelessly falling for him for the past years and...' He gestured vaguely, then shook his head and took another sip.
Lily laughed. 'And he hasn't noticed yet?'
Remus shook his head.
'Sirius is not really the observant type,' James added. 'Except for girls flirting with him; he pays attention to them more than he does in Transfiguration.'
'You're really helping, James,' Remus muttered.
'My question still stands,' Lily intervened. 'What do you see at Sirius?'
'Tell me again, Lily, why are you James' girlfriend?' Remus replied.
'I asked first.'
'Fine,' Remus mumbled, then took another sip and looked at Sirius, who was still talking to those three Gryffindors. 'Well, he's... kind of hot, like come on! Black hair and silver eyes? I can't help it!'
'Anything else?' Lily insisted.
'Well, he's smart; he would be the first in class if he just tried a bit. And he's kind and loyal and has that...' Remus gestured vaguely. 'That aura of happiness that lifts my spirits instantly.'
Lily smiled, looked at James and kissed him on the cheek. 'It sounds like you're really in love with him, Remus. All I can see is the biggest drama queen Hogwarts has ever seen.'
Remus chuckled and shook his head, still looking at Sirius. He had stopped talking to the Gryffindor and was now sitting on the couch, laughing with Marlene; even though he had no reason, Remus felt a bit of jealousy. Marlene had never flirted with Sirius, but did she have and he didn't? What kind of jokes could she possibly say that they made Sirius laugh so hard?
James came in front of him, blocking his sight towards Sirius. 'Okay, mate, I've got an idea about this whole thing, but you're not gonna like it.'
'I already despise the idea and I haven't even heard it yet,' Remus sighed.
'Well yeah, but you need to tell Sirius what you feel for him!'
'No, I don't,' Remus replied, then looked at Lily. 'Right?'
