14. {I'm Not Jealous}

Saturday

Cheryl-

I was on the back of Toni's motorcycle, holding on tight, thinking about what's going to go down in just a couple of minutes. What if she actually did change? But how, how could someone that terrible change. I loved staying at Toni's, but maybe this could be a home again. I knew Toni didn't like this idea of me going here, but I get she's worried. Plus if something does go wrong, I'll have her by my side, guess that's a good thing.

We finally arrive at the house. We get off of her bike and we walk over to the door, I press my knuckles against the coldish feeling door. The door opened almost immediately, I figured when she saw us together she would have a comment to say, or to give Toni a disgusted look. But when she opened the door she gave us both a huge smile, she hugged me and just said "hi" to Toni. She moved back so we could both walk in, then we both stepped in and we looked around. Nothing changed, but the energy of the house felt different. We all stepped into the living room, me and Toni took a seat on the couch while mother sat in front of us. I look over at Toni, she looked at me and could tell I was nervous. She gave me a quick rub on my back before taking my hand, my mother noticed but her face still wasn't disgusted.

"I'm glad you are here Cheryl, and I just wanted to say that I'm very sorry for what I did. As your mother I shouldn't have done that to you, I took away your happiness. But I've gotten help, and I want you back home. Would you want that?" She says in a soft spoken tone.

"How do we know I can trust you, you could just be saying this to put me in another trap. This could all just be an act, and I'm not sure I could ever fully trust you again. I'm very thankful that I had Toni, because If not I would just be trapped, you made me feel trapped and unwanted, mother. Even when I tried to find happiness you wanted to always bring me down, you may seem like you've changed, but let's ask are selves.. have you really?" I say, saying how I feel. I let it all out, trying not to hold back anything.

I held Toni's hand tighter, and my mother looked down at the ground, like she was upset by what I said.

"I know how you feel, you have every right to be angry. But I shouldn't have done that to you, because of who you like. But I'm done, you can be with whomever you want, I want you to be happy... I want to be happy." She says still looking down, fiddling with her wrinkled fingers.

"How do I know that? How do I know I can trust you again?" I ask her.

"Just stay here again with me, I will prove to you. I don't care if she stays here with you, if she's here or not I will not act any differently to you." She says in a soft but serious tone.

I look over at Toni, and she whispers. "If you want to, I'll be here with you." To me.

I give her a quick nod and then I look back at mother.

"We will stay here, and I will determine if you have changed." I say to her.

She gets a bright smile look on her face, like she was happy.

"Thank you. And thank you Toni for taking such care of my daughter." She says looking at Toni.

"I just have to go back to Toni's to grab some of my things, we will be back." I say standing up.
