Chapter 31

Another short update!

The next morning avni and Neil took a morning train to the next city on their itinerary..the beautiful city of Florence. They had a room in an old Italian house very close to the railway station. They had really enjoyed the train ride...admiring the scenery outside the window and also playing a couple of rounds of dumb charades too. Once they deposited their bag in their room they started the sightseeing with a visit to the world famous Uffizi gallery. After spending a few hours there, they went to the main cathedral. This was another beautiful church with an iconic dome and handcrafted marble and glass interiors. As per their newly created pact they took special pictures at both places to add to their "private' album.Next they headed to ponte Vecchio...one of the famous medeival stone bridges which was famous for bring lined with jewelry shops. Avni admired some of the jewelry pieces on display. She slyly got Neil to take pictures of her trying out multiple pieces of jewelry. And later whispered to neil- khareedne ki zarurat nahi hai, already pehen ke photo khichva liya! Neil just laughed and said- kitni kanjoos ho yaar tum! Avni- kanjoos nahi jugadu! She said with a laugh! It was already dusk by the time they wrapped up and avni told neil- I have an idea for dinner.Neil - ok Kya hai?Avni- please can I make it a surprise she asked him with her best poutNeil- don't make this face yaar....makes it impossible to say no to you!Avni- just grinned at him n said- ya well I learned it from the best- you! Neil - ok fine. How are we doing this?Avni- well i need like 45 mins to get things ready. So I need you to entertain yourself for sometime. I'll call you and meet you right here when I'm all set.Neil - ok fine. Meanwhile Neil had the perfect plan for what he wanted to do in the next 45 mins.Avni too was getting things ready.45 mins later she gave him a call and once they met again, she tied a blindfold and led him with her.A few minutes later when she opened the blindfold Neil was awestruckThey were by the water side of the Arno river. Avni had laid out a little picnic cloth pn the ground and there lay a large pizza box, a bottle of wine and some paper cups and another little box with what Neil presumed was desert. The view was amazing...they could see the bridge and cityscape. The area was secluded but lit by street lamps providing just enough light. Neil pulled avni into a hug and said - Tu sei la migliore moglie! ( You're the best wifey!)Avni- tumne finally italian main bola! Waah! Grazie mio marito! (Thank you husband!)Neil- haan bus itni hi italian seekh paaya. Ab Chalo. Peth me chuhe daud rahe hai!They sat by the riverbank enjoying their pizza which avni had got customised as per both their tastes with their favorite toppings. Avni- please tum wine ki bottle khol Doge?Neil- avni it's not rocket science...when will you learn to open the bottle?!Avni- Neil yaar, please tum lecture mat do. Open it na!Neil- ok I'll teach you.Avni- hmm fine. And she tried to follow the instructions...but suddenly she screwed the cork such that it dropped into the bottle itself!Avni- ugh! Satyanaash! Isliye bola tum hi karo she said annoyed with herselfNeil- couldn't control his laughter. Avni glared at him but in a few seconds she gave and laughed out loud.Acni- accha Chalo let's drink this before the cork taste ruins it!Sorry voh ye plastic cups hi mile! Neil- no issues baby, glass main wine sabhi peete hai but hum unique hai...hum cork ko bhi wine main girake usko plastic cup main piyenge!Avneil just laughed and sipped on the wine.As they say by the waters they enjoyed the breeze and each other's company.They finished up with Tiramisu for dessert. Avni and Neil cleared up the place. Suddenly Avni broke the wine bottle and Neil exclaimed- Kya Kar rahi ho? Kaanch lag jayegi na...he rushed up to examine herAvni- relax. Kuch nahi hua. And she searched on the ground and found what she was looking for and held up the cork- another souvenir! Neil- just shook his head fondly at her and said- tum aur tumhaare souvenirs! Chalo late hogaya. Kal humein Pisa bhi jaana hai!Avni- hmm...let's go.And they headed back to their room hand in hand.

Below is a picture of the real view of the Arno river. Imagine sitting by the river with this view enjoying some yummy italian pizza with wine and also tiramisu! To me it would be a dream come true!
