Chapter 48

Avneil were sucked into their hectic routines. Both were busy with work for the last few months. Avni had traveled to Delhi and ahemdabad for work and had been busy with lots of new clients at her company. And for the last 1 month Neil had also been having quite a few assignments that required him to travel all over the state. Avni missed his presence at home but knew it was work and obviously it was important. But in Neil's absence she was spending more time with Aman. They had slowly but steadily worked on their relationship. And she was happy to share a more sibling like relationship with him. They had discovered their shared love for Rock music, Michael Jackson, watching ganster shows on Netflix and also for italian food. So they shared music with each other, avni would often watch Netflix shows with him and then they'd discuss it passionately too and whenever she had some time off she treated him for lunch/dinner at her fav italian restaurant. She was proud that he was doing well at work and becoming independent. And Aman was just glad that he had avni around. She had been almost parent like to him thus far, taking care of setting him up and all that but he was happy to see her cool avataar too. He was surprised that she too liked similar music and he was enjoying her pampering. Usually avni had always been a little tough on him but now she was slowly opening up more and just chilling with him. He loved hanging out with her although he was a little embarrassed that he wasn't able to reciprocate much because he was still building up financially. He wanted to be responsible about his finances like his sister. Plus he had been working on saving up for something special.Aman realized that Neil being busy was indirectly helping him spend more time with his sister so he wasn't complaining although he could make out that she really missed having him around at home. Her eyes always sparkled when Neil called her to speak. Any mention of Neil would perk her up and Aman was both amused by it but also it was aspirational. He had a lot of respect for their relationship and the way they both stood together. He hoped to someday find what they had although it was really special and rare. He knew that spending time with him was helping avni distract herself from just missing her husband! But he would take it coz they were currently binge watching episodes of sacred games on Netflix which was addictive!Just as they sat there deeply engrossed in the episode avnis phone rang. Looking at her smile and reaction and the way she jumped up pausing the show he knew it was his jeeju. But as he watched her, he saw her face grow sullen. She hung up 2 mins later.Aman- Kya hua di?Avni- nahi kuch nahi, just that Neil is stuck in Pune. He can't come till Sunday Evening.Aman- aww...this is the 3rd weekend in a row na that he's busyAvni- yeah! Anyway it's work. Let's watch the rest of the episode she said trying to shrug off her disappointment.Aman felt bad for her. She was trying to be practical and understanding but she needed to be cheered up desperately.Avni went back home after watching the rest of the episode planning for another weekend without Neil.Next morning avni wandered around gloomily just doing regular stuff like laundry, cleaning the room, arranging the wardrobe. She barely ate any breakfast or lunch and the khannas had given up on trying to get her to eat more. They knew that until Neil came back she would be moping around. Aman came by in the afternoon.Avni was surprised to see him there.Avni- Kya hua chote? Kal hi toh hangout kiya tha! She joked Aman mock glared at her when she called him chote. He told her he didn't like it but honestly he loved that she had her special name for him. Avni- Kya hua? Kuch kaam that mujhse ya ainvayi aagaya?Aman- voh actually di...main vo...vo mainAvni- kya bakri ki tarah main main laga rakha hai? Or ye Kya packet leke aaya hai?Aman- nervously handed it to her and said- voh ye aapke liye haiAvni looked surprised and said- mere liye? Kya hai?Aman simply forwarded it to her.Ave quickly opened it and was shocked. She picked up a jewelry box and also a really pretty ethnic top. The jewelry box had a really pretty set of gold studs...light weight but really cute, something she could wear to work.Avni looked up at him- Aman..ye sab?Aman- voh di...Maine voh apni abtak ki salary save karke liya hai...Avni placed the items on the bed and hugged him emotionally.Her little brother had bought her something with his salary! This was a huge deal. She knew that if ayesha ma was alive she would be beside herself with happiness to see this.She finally felt like she had lived upto the promise she had made her to take care of Aman and mould him into a good person.She finally let go of him and said- thank you! I love it. It wasn't necessary but I love it! She said it super enthusiastically and even planted a kiss on his cheek.Immediately Aman wiped his cheek and whined...Di!!!Avni just laughed at him and said- I have an idea!She quickly grabbed the top he gifted her and also a jeans from get cupboard and changed. Next she wore the ear-rings he gifted and then asked- what do you think?Aman just shrugged- aapko accha laga?Avni- yes! She also picked up an overnight bag and put a set of her clothes in it. Then from Neil's side of the cupboard she picked up a t-shirt and shorts and said aloud- this should work !Aman-what are you doingAvni quickly packed the bag, took brushes, toothpaste, and then grabbed her purse n car keys and said- chal chote, let's go!Aman- go where?Avni merely pulled him along and said- kitna bakwaas karega. Chal chup chaap.And she had all but buckled him in the passenger side and took the wheels. Aman- di, hum ja kaha rahe haiAvni- lonavala!Aman- hein?! Kyun?Avni- what do you mean kyun?Aman- aise achanak?Avni- haan toh kitne din ki planning karni hai tumhe lonavala jaane ke liye?Aman- just shook his head at her- ye bhi sahi hai. He relaxed in his seat, pushing it back and set up the musicAman- vaise di, stop by the store ok.Avni- kyun? Aman- snacks ke liye! No road trip is complete without munching na!Avni just smiled back at him and they were off on a sibling road trip to lonavala!The best plans often are the ones that are spontaneous! Next day morning Neil wrapped up work sooner than expected so he got home earlier than planned. He intended to surprise avni. He had heard from his mom about how much avni had been moping but when he got home he was surprised that avni was missingNeil- ma , avni kahan hai?Shweta- arey voh Aman aaya tha Kal shaam aur voh uske saath gayi. Raat ko message kiya ki voh uske saath rukegi.Neil- oh ok. He drove to amans house and his room-mate said that he wasn't at home!Neil was puzzled and worried- kahan Gaye ye donon!He picked up his phone to call her when he saw notifications on his phone- Aman had put up a picture on his social media. It was a selfie with avni - they were sitting on the car bonnet against a hilly backdrop striking a pose with their glares on! Neil looked in shock- mujhe laga Meri wifey mujhe miss Kar rahi hai, but yahan toh madam apne Bhai ke saath trip pe nikal gayi hai! He wanted to be pissed but honestly he was just happy to see them bonding! But after the major popat he had suffered Neilsimply trudged back home and went to catch up on some precious sleep!
