Chapter 35

So Avni and Neil had been back home from their honeymoon for just over a month now. It was back to their usual routine for them. Neil had been fairly busy with a case which was requiring him to make frequent trips to Kashid, Mahabaleshwar etc. Avni would really miss him on the nights that he didn't come back home although she understood his pressures too. In any case she was also busy at work. She was really looking forward to a promotion. There was some office politics going on and Avni was really struggling to keep it together. Ever since her boss had changed and some new people had joined her team Avni had been having issues at her work place. Her new boss was a bit of an MCP. He favored her colleague even though that boy was no.1 nalayak and kaamchor. He was a huge kiss-ass and always managed to sweet talk his way and get credit for work that he did not do. On the contrary her boss was really working her to the ground. Avni was really stressed out, Neil was busy and unavailable on most days. Even though he had a vague idea of her work stress, he was too preoccupied with his own shit and Avni didn't want to burden him with her issues too. But things had been quite bad for the last 1 week. She had no one to talk to because Neela ma was out of station, Prakashji was attending a business conference and she didn't want to burden them. Ali was busy with his café expansion. He had finally struck a deal with the investors and was busy too. The only person she felt like she could talk to and wanted to speak to was Neil but he was also busy. There were only 2 things Avni was looking forward to- one was that Neil would be free this weekend and second was that Aman was being released from jail in 2 weeks. He was being released early because of good behavior and also given the fact that he had killed DVM in self defence and she was a criminal who deserved it. Aman had really become disciplined and mature in jail, although it pricked Avni immensely to see her baby brother in jail , she knew it was necessary. She had tried to visit him a few times but Aman had refused to see her. He was extremely guilt ridden and dealing with too much and he didn't want to meet Avni until he came out. He would send notes occasionally and Avni had used the assistance of DD and 123 gang to keep an eye on him and at least get a few updates about his well being. She was really looking forward to welcoming him back and hoped that he could make a better life for himself once he was out of jail.

On Friday night, Avni stayed up late waiting for Neil. And after a late dinner together, they headed to the garden to just sit by themselves for a while. Neil filled her up on his week...he tried to tell her stuff but unfortunately there were many things which were always confidential given the nature of his profession. It always bugged Avni that she didn't know any details and she would crib about it to Neil but he would keep reminding her of his "farz" and other such things and Avni would just let it go. Avni also finally let off all steam. She rambled to Neil about her MCP khadoos boss, her nikamma colleague Ankit...neil was highly amused to hear the expletives she used. Often a frustrated Avni was quite funny too. Like she came up with the most amazing one liners- pure gold they were. He was torn between laughing aloud versus maintaining a stoic supportive silence. Finally once she had let out all her bhadaaas, she took a deep breath and told him

A- I'm glad you're back. I feel better now that I have told you everything! She hugged his arm and leaned against him

N- pecked her forehead lightly and said- so bhadaas quotient khatam hogaya ho, toh chalein

A- Bhadaas toh ho gaya but there is one other thing I wanted to talk to you about

N- hmmm bolo...

A- Voh agle hafte aman is getting released

N- ya I know. He has been doing well in the correspondence course too. His grades are very good. Vaise I have also looked for a couple of part time job opportunities for him

Avni looked at him in surprise

N- Oh come on wifey, you really think you are the only one keeping tabs on him.
