RICHIE'S POV
All my life I've been a little different than others. Whereas most people can see all sorts of colors, I can't. There's a certain color I can't see, but I've always wanted to.
Brown.
People always describe it as being the color of so many different things; trees, the ground, eyes...but all I see is gray. I haven't yet met my soulmate. But I want to so badly.
--
"Richie? Richie, are you even listening?"
I snapped back to reality at Beverly's voice.
"Huh? What?"
"Ugh" she scoffed. "I said, do you want to go to this party with me?"
"Party? Where?" I queried curiously.
"It's at Bill's house. I said that. Were you listening?"
"No. Sorry, Bev" I sighed.
She gave me a sympathetic look before sitting down next to me.
"Are you okay?" she asked gently.
"Yeah. I just...I just wish I could meet my soulmate. I'm tired of seeing gray all the time. Everyone I know has met their soulmate and seen their color, I haven't"
"Aww, I'm sorry Richie" she cooed. "But hey, it takes time. Just be patient, you'll find him. If I wasn't patient, I never would've met Ben"
"You're right, Bevvie" I smiled halfheartedly. "So, who else is going?"
"Besides you, me, and Ben, there will be Mike, Stan, Bill obviously, and, I don't know if you know him, but Eddie Kaspbrak. He's our age"
Eddie. I rolled the name over and over on my tongue.
"Richie?"
"Eddie, huh?"
--
We arrived at Bill's party and were greeted by loud music, laughing, and the stench of alcohol.
"Hey, you made it!" Bill greeted jovially.
"Hey, Big Bill" we rolled our eyes at him but smiled all the same.
"Drunk already, Bill?" Beverly said teasingly as she gestured at the red solo cup in Bill's hand.
"Hahaha noooooo"
We both gave him a look like oh really?
"Yeahh, maybe a lil bit" he admitted unapologetically.
"That's what I thought" she laughed.
"Alright, come on you goof" I patted his shoulder and we shoved past him.
He closed the door and led us to the kitchen. He led us to the counter where cups and beer bottles lay strewn across the countertop.
"Help yourself, and have fun" he instructed. "But if you throw up or make a mess, please clean up"
"Got it, Big Bill" Beverly saluted him.
He rolled his eyes and chuckled before walking away.
I glanced at Beverly and we laughed when she glanced back.
"We should totally prank him later" I suggested slyly.
"Definitely" she smiled and winked.
As I took a sip from my cup, I spotted a handsome boy out of the corner of my eye.
"Wow, look at him" Beverly gestured to the boy.
I turned around to look at him and immediately perked up. He was half turned, talking to Stan as he played with his cup. He looks handsome as hell just from this view. Beverly must've noticed me staring because she playfully punched my shoulder, knocking me off balance a little.
"OOOH, he's cute, isn't he?" she cooed teasingly with a smirk and a cock of her eyebrow.
"I wasn't staring!" I protested defensively.
"I never said you were" she burst out laughing.
"Oh, shut up, Molly Ringwald. Go back to your slumber hole"
"Okay, sorry" she giggled. "Why don't you go talk to him?"
"I-I...you think I should?" I said nervously as I ran a hand through my curls.
"Yes, now go!" she waved me away.
"Okay....here goes...thanks BeverLY!" she gave me a shove in his direction and waved as I glared at her.
I set my drink down and shuffled over to him. He immediately turned to face me and- oh my God, he's gorgeous.
"Uh, hey" I said nervously, my cheeks heating up.
"Hi" he smiled. "You must be Richie"
"Yeah" I grinned. "How'd you know?"
"Bill told me. You know Bill, right?"
"Yeah" I scoffed.
"Well, I'm Eddie" he extended his hand.
I took it and shook hands with him before trailing my eyes to his.
You know that feeling when you see experience something new? The sensations, the feeling you get when you're learning it for the first time, the familiarity settling in? Because that's how I felt when I saw his eyes for the first time.
His eyes. My God, his eyes. A beautiful caramel brown. They captivated me in inexplicable ways, it was like my whole world became clear.
This is what I've been missing. Damn every other color, I wanted to see brown forever if it meant seeing him forever. All the hues of the world could not compare to Eddie. He gazed into my eyes as I was captivated by his, completely enticed by the twinkling orbs complementing his handsome face.
"Wow, Eddie" I said breathlessly mesmerized.
"Right back at you" he said softly, smiling.
And like magnets being drawn to metal, our lips met. His lips were soft, and tasted like vanilla. Our lips moved in sync as I pulled him by his waist to deepen the kiss. We didn't want to pull away, but when we did eventually to catch our breath, we gazed into each other's eyes again before he wrapped his arms around my neck and rested his forehead against mine.
"I think I've found my soulmate" he chuckled lightly.
"Me too" I grinned, and connected our lips.
