school didn't feel the same for josh, without having his best friend glued to his side made him feel more vulnerable; he missed having her ask him every single question under the sun or having her repeatedly check for any wounds on him after he got smacked on the backside of his head by a basketball. even thinking about her sent him into a panic attack leaving him sobbing and whimpering out for her in the bathroom during lunch. not even did tyler ask how he was feeling, he completely ignored josh basically for the whole day but josh could feel tyler's eyes on him during homeroom or any class they had together.

days passed by in a blur for josh, not knowing what he was learning or if he had homework to finish and turn in.

only after two weeks after the death of his friend, tyler finally talked to him. he didn't even realize he missed the presence of the boy.

it was wednesday afternoon, school being let out early for teachers to have a meeting and of course, josh had nothing to do. without having ashley tell him what to do or what she was planning for them to do, he sat lazily on the rubber red seat of a swing while smaller kids laughed and played with one another. noticing tyler sitting next to him on the other swing but not saying anything but tyler didn't either, both boys seeming to enjoy the calm atmosphere of one another without even speaking.

but it didn't last long.

"how are you feeling?"

josh only shrugged. he didn't know how he felt, he always felt numb most of the time. he turned to look at tyler, spotting a small trace of a red substance on his lips and going down his chin.

"that's blood."

tyler froze before touching his lips, turning away for a split-second before facing josh again.

"uh, thanks. my, uh, my lip was bleeding earlier."

josh only nodded, not feeling like talking anymore. bringing his attention back to the kids before tyler spoke again.

"do you..want to hang out at my place?"

josh noticed a small hesitant tone in tylers voice, tapping silently on the rusted chains before looking back at tyler. mixtures of brown swirled together like honey being poured into a hot cup of tea on a saturday morning, all showing warmth and caring but something else showed. something else that made his insides twist and churn with fear, made shivers creep down his spine and made him regret looking at tyler.

pressing his lips in a thin line, he answered.

"sure."
