It was early in the morning, a while before classes started, and you were supposed to be working on a mission with your squad. However, funny as it would seem, they had left without you. Simple as that. After questioning their antics with the higher ups, it turned out you had been reassigned to help out Yukio with his classes. Well, you couldn’t really complain with an answer like that. So for the past few days you’d been doing your job as somewhat of an assistant teacher, enjoying it so much that you were going to inquire if you could keep the job for a little while longer. Teaching the next generation of Meisters was an interesting job, you had discovered.“Good morning you two,” you greeted the twins with a polite smile as you entered the cafeteria of the empty dorm, spotting them both sitting across from each other at one of the tables, polishing off their meals. Rin seemed to grumble a lethargic greeting from his place, mumbling through a mouthful of food. Yukio however shifted in his seat in a tired manner, returning your morning greeting with a weary smile.
“Yikes, what’s the matter with you two?” You stopped at the end of the table, brow raised slightly to accommodate your curiosity. They looked absolutely exhausted.
“Four-eyes kept mumbling in his sleep last night. Needless to say, we didn’t get a good night’s rest.” Rin stood up, pointedly sending a glare to his younger brother, “Stop being so paranoid.” And he walked away with his tray, plopping it in the kitchen before taking his leave, walking smack bang into the door in his fatigued state. You put a hand to your mouth to stop yourself from laughing as the teen grumbled once again, opening the door and finally making it out of the room. After he’d disappeared, you returned your attention to Yukio, who was looking off to the side in an almost bashful manner, “Yukio, why did you sleep so poorly?”
You sat beside him on the bench, and he sighed, lolling his head to the side, “It’s nothing to worry about.” You tapped his shoulder, understanding that tone of voice of his from a mile away, “Hey, hey. There’s no need to be so self conscious about your moles, you know.”
He visibly cringed at your words, obviously uncomfortable with the topic, “That is... easier said than done.”
You huffed, turning your gaze to the wall across the room from you, staring at the mature coat of cream paint. After a few moments, you heard Yukio attempt to move away, probably to return his tray of plates, but you stopped him with your words.
“Do you want to know a secret?”
He thought for a moment, an eyebrow quirking in inquisitiveness. What an out of the blue question to ask. Well, since you were offering it must have been important, and he didn’t want to offend you in any way by denying the question.
“I suppose, if you’re all right with telling me.”
You smiled, holding out your hand as he sat down once again, “I wouldn’t be offering if I wasn’t alright with it. Now, give me your hand for a moment.”
He didn’t question your behaviour all that strictly and merely decided to do as you instructed, placing his closest hand in yours. You cleared your throat before lifting his hand, placing it to the left side of your neck. His eyes widened at the action, stuttering and about to move his hand away, until he felt the small, distinct bump under his fingers.
“Moles are just a part of life. They’re like scars, I guess. Personally, I think they add character to an individual. Even though you can’t see mine - since it’s the same colour as my skin and all - I wouldn’t get it removed, because it kind of defines me, as me, you know? Like hair colour.”
Yukio pulled his hand away, only just now noticing the faint hue of red on your face as you spoke with a quieter voice, “I hope that makes you feel better, even if its just a little.”
He also noticed he could feel his heart thrumming rapidly within his chest. His lips quirked into a tepid smile, “It does. Thank you for showing me.”
