It didn’t matter that the room was quiet.  It didn’t matter that the room was comfortably warm.  The only thing that mattered was that they were together.  In a bundle of tangled limbs, they slept quietly beneath the covers.  Well, Yukio did.

(Name) was content with watching her husband rest; his chin tipped up, left cheek pressed against the pillow.  His mouth hung up just slightly, revealing the sharp teeth that connected him to his demonic origins, and his furry tail flicked subconsciously against her foot.  It was rare to have such quiet moments, so she took the chance to indulge in them when she could.

The young human brought her head forward and brushed the tip of her nose against his chin.  The breath of his partner tickled his flesh, and Yukio stirred.  His dark lashes fluttered away from his eyes, and the corners of his mouth twitched as he began to wake.

“Hey, (Name),” the half-breed mumbled sleepily, rubbed one of his eyes.

(Name) backed off and blinked.  She hadn’t meant to wake him.

“Sorry, Yukio,” she uttered guiltily, her cheeks tinging pink as buried her nose into his chest. “I didn’t think that would wake you up.”

Yukio sat up a little so he could get a better look at his wife.  He picked up his glasses from the bedside table and settled them neatly on his face before running his fingers soothingly through (Name)’s hair.  “How long have you been up?”

She looked up again and paused to think about the question.  “I don’t know… an hour, maybe?”

“And you didn’t move or anything?” the half-demon asked, eyeing her curiously as his tail flipped across her foot again.

(Name) shook her head.  She reached forward and pushed his glasses onto his forehead before looking into his eyes with a sigh.

Long, ebony lashes fluttered over the turquoise coloring before pulling away again.  They were as beautiful as ever.  Maybe even more beautiful with the addition of the cat-like pupils, and when he would call upon his demonic power they would flare up in a brilliant, crimson red.

“It’s hard to remember what your human eyes looked like, Yukio,” she mused suddenly, skimming her thumb across his forehead.

Yukio’s whole visage darkened at the remark.  “I know,” he agreed rather bitterly, averting his gaze from hers.  His lips peeled back from his teeth, and crimson slowly began to invade the blackness of his pupils.

(Name) bit down nervously on her lower lip.  She hadn’t meant it that way, but then of course, how else could one take it?

“I just meant that I used to look for demonic abnormalities in your eyes, and now well, there they are, as plain as day.”  She flinched at her own words, which just seemed to be getting worse and worse.  Maybe she should just stop talking altogether?

“Sorry,” she muttered to her husband.

Yukio’s gaze turned to (Name) again, softening a little.  He knew that his wife wasn’t intentionally trying to open old wounds.  She was just attempting to compliment him.

He pressed his forehead to her own, sighing softly against her lips.  “It’s all right, (Name),” the half-demon assured her quietly.  “I know you weren’t meaning any harm.”

(Name)’s eyes wavered a little in her surprise.  Yukio wasn't normally so forward with his affection.  The young female reached up and grabbed his horns with both her hands, earning a hiss from her partner.  She giggled a little before closing her eyes.  “I love you, Yukio Okumura.”

“I love you more, (First Name) Okumura…”
