Take it Easy

"Argh, dammit!" (name) grunted, throwing her pencil to the ground.

The point snapped, but the girl couldn't care less at this point. With one quick swipe, her books and papers fell to the ground. They made a dry "thud" sound, and laid in the cold floor. She rested her head in her hands, her head aching. Why had she taken on extra studies- no, why had she even thought about talking to the teacher for extra work the first year?!

She tapped the table nervously, not wanting to make more noise. Her dormates had probably already heard her when she threw her books, but if nobody had come to check on her, she wasn't about to give them a reason to do so. Sighing, she threw herself back in her chair. How had she even ended up like that? It would have been much more easier if the principal had put her in a normal dorm, where she could ask people about the classes, but no. That purple happy-go-lucky nutbar had placed her in a dorm with only two boys: the overly adored, quote-on-quote handsome Yukio Okumura, and his more idiotic, silly brother, Rin.

"Maybe Yukio would be helpful... Nah." (name) refused to let the younger Okumura help her, not wanting to put her pride down. She was supposed to be one of the most intelligent students, so there was no way she'd ask the other star student... No, no way.

"Ne, (name)-san, may I come in?" Yukio's voice was heard from the other side of the wooden door, and (name) did a 360 in the spinny chair and almost fell out of it.

"Speak of the devil..." she uttered as low as she could, not wanting the boy with the glasses to hear her. Quickly picking up her stuff, she walked over to the door and put on her best calm, cool face.

"What is it, Okumura-san?" asked (name), looking at the boy as she opened the door. It was clear that she didn't want any informalities with this student.

"I heard some things fall... They seemed to come from here, are you alright?" he asked, and (name) felt the need to reply kindly. Oh, but she couldn't! ...Surely, she couldn't.

"Indeed. I accidentaly knocked my books whilst I studied. Now, if you excuse me..." (name) was about to close the door, but her pencil slipped from her grasp. Yukio bent down to pick it up.

"Huh? Why is this pencil... Split in two?" he asked, and (name)'s eyes widened in realization. The pencil was, indeed, split in two. From the tip to the eraser, a long slender line separated the yellow wood in two, barely holding on.

"It must have broken when it fell..." said (name), but she was sure her voice had wavered.

Yukio's eyebrow rose. He studied the girl in front of him: professional, but with a newfound hint of nervousness. Tapping on her leg... That was a clear sign of nervousness. He decided not to dig in too deep into the topic. (name) was already to cold towards him, and if he wanted her to warm up to him, he'd need to approach her softly and slowly.

"...I see." he put one of his hands in her shoulder, surprising her. Her mouth let out an involuntary, soft little yelp when she felt the warmth of his hand on her. It was faint, but her cheeks became rosy. Yukio smiled internally.

"Anyways, whatever you are doing, take it easy, ok? Don't overwork yourself. I'd hate to walk in and find you laying on the floor with some sort of brain overload." he said, and ruffled her hair.

She shut the door, leaving Yukio. He smiled, now visibly. He could hear her stomp all the way to her desk, he could hear the sound of her plopping in her seat and sharpening her pencil... And he heard her speak:

"Yukio... You adorable dork..." she uttered, not aware of Yukio hearing her from the other side of the door.
