You'd been late to class earlier on purpose. You knew you would get detention for it but at least that meant that you would get the chance to be alone with your teacher. Yukio Okumura. He's the same age as you, but a very smart and talented guy... not to mention incredibly attractive, and kind and sweet, and funny. You had developed a crush on him the very first day of class, and had contemplated a confession for a long time. Although your often a very straight forward and brave person, when it came to someone you really liked, you could barely speak.
But today would be different. Even if you hadn't ever told someone how you felt before you were determined to step up and tell Yukio.
A sigh escaped your lips once you'd finished sweeping. You turned to face Yukio, who is at his desk grading tests, and leaned the broom against the wall.
"I'm all done Mr.Okumura." you said, and switched your weight to one foot.
"Alright, then you're free to go, see you tomorrow in class." Yukio answered dismissively, not even bothering to look up from his papers.
You went to grab your backpack off a near by table and contemplated weather or not to just leave. But you quickly shook the thought off and willed yourself to go to Yukios desk instead.
"Hey, Mr. Okumura." You said, stepping up a little tentitively.
"Hm?" He responded, glancing up at your face.
"I-i was wondering, if maybe, if you're not busy that is, if you'd want to go get ice cream with me or something." You bit your lip, and gripped your backpack strap that had been slung lazily over your shoulder.
"No, I'm sorry but I have lots of work to do."
The way he didn't even bother looking up at you stung more than you'd like to admit. Even if his answer seemed a little flustered, you knew Yukio meant his words. He'd always had a difficult time turning away girls, but he did so none the less.
"Its okay, i understand how busy you are." You did you best to hide the disappointment you felt, and sadly sauntered towards the door.
You were halfway to it, when you stopped dead in your tracks. A soft sigh made your shoulders shrug. You let your bag hit the floor, but you continued to grip the shoulder strap. You took a deep breath in and turned to face Yukio again before your courage left you.
"You know what Yukio," you started in a semi sad, semi flat tone, " I may seem really sure of myself, but it actually took a lot for me to ask you out."
He looked up at you, then sat straight up in his desk.
"I've liked you for quite some time now," you continued, shifting your eyes to the floor, "but I knew that it would be a little inappropriate for a student to admit such a thing to her teacher. So I hid it. But today I decided to take a chance..."
Another sigh left your mouth.
"...you didn't even look at me when you said no. You barely even acknowledged me. Its not that i blame you but..." You bit your lip, and forced yourself to meet his gaze. "I know you probably turn down girls left and right, but one of these days you might just brush aside the one that's meant for you."
You turned on your heal and went to the door. Before walking out you looked at the glasses wearing exorcist.
"Not saying its me or anything, I just thought id give you some thing to think about."
With that you left as quickly as possible, not really wanting to hear a response. You skipped class the next day, dreading having to face Yukio. You walked to a near by lake and sat on the waters edge for hours, your legs folded over each other and leaning back with your arms supporting you. The cool crisp breeze felt intoxicating. You were completely at ease. Until someone cleared their throat behind you.
You hoped it wasn't who you thought it was. But a glance over your shoulder shot those hopes down.
"Hi Yukio," you said politely then turned to face the lake again.
You could feel his eyes at your back. Even when he came to sit on the grass next to you, you could still feel the burn of his eyes. Neither of you said anything for a long moment, and the air around you quickly became tense.
"Why weren't you in class today?" Yukio finally asked.
You shrugged.
"I didn't feel well,"
It wasn't a complete lie. Dreading Yukio had made knots form in your stomach. You could see Yukio nod out of the corner of your eye.
"Does it have anything to do with what happened yesterday?"
You bit your lip and shrugged again.
"Maybe,"
You saw him nod again.
Another long drawn out silence formed between the two of you. Which you were quickly losing your patience for.
"If you have something to say Yukio you should just say it. I don't really like it when people beat around the bush."
"I did some thinking after you left," he said, almost immediately after you'd spoken, "I thought a lot about, what you said and well, just, you."
You looked at him, cocking your head to the side a little.
"Yeah?" You said softly, signaling for him to continue.
"Id like to take you up on your earlier offer, I mean, only if its still an option."
You smiled softly at first then ended up grinning at Yukio.
"Duh!" You said and hopped up cheerfully from the ground.
Grabbing Yukios hand in yours, you quickly pulled him up beside you and wrapped your arms around his tall frame. His body flinched away from yours for a second, pulling you with him, and landing the both of you right in the lake.
The water was shallow, and thank goodness it was at least not freezing.
"Sorry!" You said frantically, standing up as fast as you could.
You were surprised to hear Yukio laugh in response. He stood slowly, dripping wet just like you. His smile made you smile back.
"I guess well have to schedual ice cream for another day huh?" You joked, twisting the bottom of your skirt and shirt to get out some of the water.
"Not necessarily," Yukio answered, doing the same as you were. "How about you go home and change into some dry clothes, I'll do the same, and we meet at the shop a few blocks from here."
You smiled, happy that you hadn't messed up, and thank full that you had said something yesterday.
"That sounds great."
