I, Ayato, Laito and Yui all walked the halls of the academy, but I kept Yui by my side the whole time incase either of my brothers tried anything on her.
Our steps were heard echoing around the long hallway, and after a long 10 minutes of walking I finally found my classroom.
I didn't bother opening it with my hand so I kicked the wooden door open harshly, enough that it banged loudly on the wall next to it. I sighed and flipped my medium-length hair over my shoulder, walking over to my desk swiftly and watching as two more bodies sat down on the desks in front of me, all scattered out in different sections.
"Ah, this just feels right" I said with an obvious hint of relief. Ayato and Laito smiled at each other before turning their attention to me.
"I can't believe it's actually you... we thought you had died, Eve" Laito looked down at his hands that were scratching the front of his desk quite badly. His face showed frustration and depression as he lost his interest in what was in front of him and let his imagination take over.
Frowning, I stood up and slid down to the desk in front of the fedora-wearing boy who looked as though he was going to cry again. I quickly made a move and cupped his stone cold cheek, stroking it lightly with my thumb to reassure him that I was here and nothing was going to happen."It's true, ya' know. We did actually believe you had died" Ayatos voice burst from the right of the classroom, his body lean against the chair that he was sat in. I raised one of my eyebrows and nodded him to go on.
"After a month of searching for you, father made a decision to tell everyone that you had perished in an ambush and died the following morning when we tried to find you" Ayato whispered in an almost silent voice. I raised my hand over my mouth and but at my nails, bitting them out of nervousness of what I was about to hear.
"Hearing that was enough to kill everyone's belief that you had a chance of being alive, even our mothers. It was difficult, but out of all of us, Subaru had it the worst" Laito continued on his brothers sentence, now eyes narrowing sadly when the mentioning of the albino males name.
"We hadn't seen Subaru in an entire year, the word that you had died made him no-doubt insane. But I don't blame him, he was absolutely crushed and talked to absolutely no one, even your mother Christa. As the days passed, Subaru was kept well fed. Meaning he was force fed by the maids who were ordered to by our father. Since Subaru was the one who suffered the most from your loss, he was taken to a separate wing in the mansion and we hadn't seen him, ever. Subaru was locked up just like your mother but he was only treated better. After a years of not seeing him, Subaru still had never gotten over the fact that you died and he blames it all on himself," Ayato spoke form his parted lips, sighing when seeing my puffy red ones that were filling with sad tears.
A horrid feeling spread in my chest when I heard what they had said.
Subaru was institutionalised...?
I used the sleeve of my blouse to wipe my eyes, and the strong act I had minutes ago was nowhere to be found, at all.
Laito rested a hand on my shoulder and sent me a soft smile when I met his gaze."We felt exactly the same, Eve. Losing another one of our siblings was bad enough, especially since we already lost you. After the word got out that both of you disappeared, you were called the 'Mourning twins' by many townsfolk, and even noblemen. People created paintings of what you both looked like as grown adults, one of them is in your old room in the mansion. Townsfolk offered us sympathy but we rejected it and used it as a negative force against them, mostly to show that we didn't need it when really we did. Your name was never mentioned ever again after what happened, and if anyone did they were burdened with bad luck upon them and their families" Laito explained, using hand gestures as him and Ayato continued the story.
"But I don't understand," I said, gripping the sides of my seat as I looked into space out of confusion.
"Why was my name never mentioned? I always said that when I die, I'll always be remembered as someone willingly ready to do anything, supportive of the poor and defender or my people. I remember telling father that, that was what I wanted to be known as... yes" the last part I mumbled to myself, but it was still enough for bth of them to hear.
"Of course we talked about you, but only to each other, never in front of... Reiji and Shu" Ayato hissed and seemed to clench his jaw at the mentioning of our eldest brothers.
Cocking my head to the side, I furrowed my eyebrows in a questionable manner and seemed to make both of my brothers notice.
