I stared up at the sky through my cottage window. I was back home, for the first time in forever.
I was tucked away in my couch, covered in blankets and pillows.
All of my windows and blinds were shut except for the window I was sitting closest to.
It was cold outside, but my house was absolutely freezing.
I never really got a cold, but this season it seemed that I was catching one.
I held a cup of hot chocolate in my hands, warming them up as best as I could while watching the television.
Once they were warm enough, I took a light sip before blowing away the steam.
I jolted suddenly when the beverage burned the top of my tongue, causing me to wince and breathe in the air rapidly.
"Shit!" I cursed, setting the cup down on my coffee table before I ran to my kitchen.
I looked through my cupboard, took a random glass and filled it up with water to then swish it around in my mouth.
The pain in my tongue had calmed down slightly, but it was still stingy from the burn.I sighed loudly and shook my head, leaning over my sink before raising my hand to open up the window in front of me.
Cool air surrounded my body, making me shiver and chatter my teeth.
I looked outside of the window, squinting my eyes while rubbing my arms for friction.
I clapped my hands together and walked back to my living room, closing over the glass door that separated the two rooms.
Once It was silent, I walked over to the book shelf and took out a random book.To my surprise, it was my diary.
I rolled my eyes and held it under my arm, taking out another large book which was a tad bit heavy.
I walked back to my couch and fell on it effortlessly, slamming into the pillows which made a small snack sound.
I sat up abruptly and cleared my throat, using the tv remote to turn up the volume on the tv.
"Hmm... let's see" I flipped over the large book I had in my hand after placing my diary on the left side of the couch.
I closed my eyes and flipped through pages until I took a gamble and placed my finger on a random page.
Peeling open my left eye, I saw that I came across an article from 1922.It was a murder case, but not just any.
I read through every word under a single minute, testing the speed of my reading since I struggled with it on some occasions.
James Bishop Jr, age 23, died from mysterious animal attack. Teeth marks located at main artery on right side of neck, overall three pairs of teethmarks. Located in neck, wrist and collarbone.
My hand flipped a page and I read another article.
Susie Evans, age 34, feral animal attack. Bruises and bite marks located around chest, stomach, neck, and thighs. Died from extreme blood loss and infection.
Sherrie Clarkson, age 15, passed away from apparent animal attack. Cuts, bruises and bite marks located in neck, stomach, back, and legs.
Died in hospital from blood loss.I stopped reading and flipped another page. Every victims case I've read died from a 'mysterious' animal attack.
I immediately knew what it was but I was confused.
I bought this book in the 80's from a witch and I've read it countless times.
I know the crime cases word by word and I still can't wrap my head around the main point in all of the cases.
There's only one thing that related with every case, is that the vampire wasn't a pureblood. It was a half blood.
But why would a half blood go around killing people for fun? I was taught that they'd kill humans just to drink their blood but the victims have severe injuries on their bodies.
The youngest victim in the book was aged 6 years. Killed by an animal, blah blah blah.
Died from critical injuries, but the bite mark wasn't the most fatal wound.I knew for a fact that this wasn't just any vampire, it'd have to be a half blood which would make much more sense; so I stuck to that answer.
I chewed on the inside of my cheek while grabbing my pen which was lying on the newspaper I read half an hour ago.
I scribbled down notes at the side of the printed writing and drew arrows to link the information to what I wrote.
Writing flooded the borders of the book from page to page, especially the ones I read.
I reached for my hot chocolate and took a large gulp this time since it cooled down overtime. The sweet-tasting liquid filled my mouth and I smiled at the nostalgic taste.
The tv was still playing but I didn't get distracted that often.
By the time I finished writing my fingers ached, the tips bright red and the bones creaking.
I thrashed my hand around for ten seconds to get rid of the pins 'n' needles in my muscles.
I breathed a sigh of relief when it stopped, my hand changing from red to its original colour.I stopped for a moment and looked at all the sentences and paragraphs I wrote, skimming over them harshly which almost made my eyes squint.
I rubbed my eyes for 5 seconds before yawning and stretching my limbs out.A moment later, my ears caught ahold of something outside; in the forest and through the trees.
It was a howl, a loud one as well. But it was a howl I knew all too well..."Carla...?" I mumbled, shooting straight up from my couch and running to the door as fast as I could.
Opening the door loudly, I ran outside; my bare feet slamming against the frost-coated grass but I didn't stop for anything.
I ran and ran and ran until I was inside the dark forest, my eyes adjusting to my night vision as I twirled around in search for the hairy beast."Carla where are you?!" I yelled, my hands cupping either side of my mouth so my voice could travel far.
One minute later, a twig snapped which made me jump suddenly.
I almost immediately leaned down so I was on my knees, my hands resting on my thighs as my feet supported my backside.
I whistled through my teeth, my lips thinning a lot as the high pitched ring echoed through the trees.
Soon, soft footsteps were walking towards me and I didn't dare move.
A white wolf emerged behind a thick oak tree and its gold eyes stared at me with curiosity.
I smiled and widened my arms for the wolf to jump in them.
The wolf creeped towards me and sniffed my hand, licking it after a second of smelling.
Licks soon turned into excited jumps and before I knew it, the wolf was thrashing frantically in my arms.
I laughed and kissed its head, pulling away right before the wolf licked all over my face.
I heard the wolf cry as its head nuzzled against mine.I placed my hand at either side of its face and kissed its head.
"You came back, Carla" I sniffed, feeling tears run down my face and into Carla's fur.
His voice whined loudly, soon staying still as I rocked him back and fourth in my arms. I didn't dare to let him go, we shared the peaceful silence as we both closed our eyes. After many minutes passed I opened my eyes and to my realisation, I was leaning on a hard chest.
I pulled away and looked up, my eyes meeting with a pair of glistening gold ones.
Long white hair traced the sides of my face as I was directly under Carla's face.
His arms were around my waist, his hands clinging onto my top as his nose touched mine.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and hugged him tightly, like it would be the last time I'd ever get to hold him.
Carla tester his chin on my head and stoked my hair softly, his breath showing through the cold air as his eyes closed.
A moment passed, his lips touched my head and he kept them there for a while."Jesus, I've missed you so much Eve" he held me tightly and squeezed his eyes shut.
I held him close to me, nodding my head vigorously as I sniffed in Carla's shoulder.A moment passed and I smiled.
"I've missed you more" I chuckled and stroked his hair.
