"RUKI!" I screamed, violently jolting out from the dream I was in moments ago. My body was covered in sweat caused by destress, my chest heaving up and down as I whimpered and squeezed my eyes shut.
Tears left my eyes and I started sobbing out of shock.
My whole body was shaking.

"Calm down eve... it was just a nightmare" I breathed through my nose afterwards and placed a hand on my chest.
Time passed and I'd calmed down my breathing until it couldn't be heard anymore.

"It was just a nightmare..." I whispered.

(A few hours later)

I sat in the teachers lounge with an apple in the palm of my left hand. My eyes twinkled down at the students papers and I was over the moon to see that all of them had passed their industrial revolution exam. My slender fingers smoothly flipped over their sheets and my eyes scanned over them at the speed of light.
I took a bite of my apple, creating a fairly loud crunch which made my skin crawl when I heard it.
There were other teachers in the lounge, but they didn't mind the noise, they were too busy listening to music or eating their lunches.
Lunch lasted an hour, and it only started 5 minutes ago which gave me tons of time to finish marking the papers.

Just as I was about to reach for a pen on the kitchen counter, the lights flickered, causing all of the teachers to stop what they were doing and look up in suspicion.

"What's going on?" Miss Yu, a Chinese teacher teaching literature in the school spoke, her accent ringing out throughout the lounge which made all of us shrug.
"It's probably just a tiny power disturbance" I replied, grabbing the pen and beginning to mark the papers quickly.
Miss Yu nodded hesitantly and looked over to the window on her left, which gave a pretty view of the school gardens.

Miss Yu was a fairly young teacher, she said she was 34 but she looked at least 10 years younger. She had long, black hair that reached her lower back and dark eyes that shimmered wherever she looked.
Miss Yu spoke many languages, Chinese, both Mandarin and Cantonese, Japanese, English, and Spanish. She was very educated in the language side of things and she taught all 4 in her literature classes.
Miss Yu's one of the few teachers that's welcomed me with a smile and shown me around the school so i don't get lost.
At first she thought I was a student without a uniform and when I told her I was the new teacher she honestly couldn't stop apologising!

Another teacher in the lounge, Mrs Samsung, looked over to me, her face showing the complete opposite of reassurance.
"That's never happened before..." she mumbled, her hands fidgeting in her lap nervously as she chewed on her bottom lip.

I sighed inwardly, standing up and dusting off my black jeans. I done up the top button of my blouse since whenever it was break or lunch, it was always unbuttoned.
My ankle boots clicked against the floor when I reached the door that lead into the hallway.

"I'll go and check the power box" I said, making all of the women nod.
I quickly opened the door and rapidly walked down the claustrophobic hallways, my breathing cut short when I quickened my pace.
There were a few teachers at the power box in the janitor room, making it quite hard for me to see what was going on.
The nurse from before was there, so was the other history teacher and janitor.
"There seems to be something going on with the power... the cable cords aren't working right and I can't seem to get them in the right place- this night take a while" spoke the janitor, his hands shaky and his eyes looking through the thickest pair of glasses I'd ever seen in my life.
I folded my arms over my chest and cleared my throat, making the nurse turn around.

"Ah, Miss Katsuki, wonderful to see you, hopefully you're doing well after the small incident you had" his words were as sweet as honey and his mouth curled up into a soft smile.
I returned the smile and nodded my head graciously, "I wouldn't be okay if it weren't for you, nurse" I chuckled placing my hand on my chest so he got the gesture.
The nurse smirked and bowed his head, his gold eyes burning through my skin, it almost seemed impossible to look at them.
"It's no problem at all, Miss Katsuki" his words were sweet like honey, gentle and comforting, they made me smile and bow my head in return.
"Alright guys, the powers gonna' go out for a few hours so please warn the students to light the emergency candles" the janitor spoke.
Myself, the nurse, and history teacher all nodded and scurried back to our own rooms.

I walked into my classroom which was pitch black, the students clinging close to their desks since none of them could see a thing.

"Okay students, listen to me carefully" I started, my hands slightly shaking and my breathing heavy.
"I'd like you to stay with whoever you're closest to. No one move" I said, making my way over to the emergency kit that was attached to the wall to my left. Because I was a vampire, I could see in the dark, and even I thought that was a bit cliche, but it's very useful at times like this.
The students whispered and looked around cluelessly in the dark, afraid and shaking in fear.
I clicked open the cabinet and pulled out a white candle, holding it under my arm before pulling out a single match.
With one strike, there was light and the students sighed in relief. I hovered the flame above the candle and waited for the flame to catch on.
I walked back to my desk and placed it on carefully, shoving a tissue underneath it so the wax wouldn't melt on the wood.
"Now, there's an emergency candle underneath everyone's desk. Please, with care lift your desktops up and come over to me for a match" I instructed, sitting down at my desk and watching as the students slowly approached my desk.
Lighting every candle, they students let out breaths of relief once they could now see each other in the light.
After sitting back down at their desks, I cleared my throat.
"It seems that there's been a severe power cut that might last all night, I tried checking with the janitor but it didn't look good" I spoke softly, my hands clamped together and my legs crossed.
"If any of you need a laboratory break, please tell me and I'll come with you. Other than that, I'll give you all a few notes to copy" my hand opened up a drawer underneath me and I pulled out at least 30 pieces of paper filled with words and pictures.
I stood up and dusted my skirt before walking over to the students and handing out the paper.
The students were bickering to themselves, their voices quiet and their movements were slow.
The rest of the period, I sat at my desk and decided to join in with the students chatter.
They asked more questions about myself; which I was more than happy to answer.
But sometimes it was fairly difficult to do so. I'd get the occasional question about family, but I'd answer truthfully; not about the fact that they were all hundreds of years old, but the necessary facts.

But it all came to a stop when a scream erupted down the hall that only I could hear.
