Traven

Growing up it is hard for me to see my Mom having a hard time. After my father left us, she decided to move back to my Grandmother's house to start a new life, I was only three years old and Carmen was only one year old at that time.

"Jang nan hae? Ayan ang sinasabi ko, binalikan mo ulit siya and he left you again. You didn't learned... iniwan ka na niya three years ago. Kaya pala lagi mong iniiwan sa akin sina Traven dahil nakikipagkita ka ulit sa kanya. I told you Ava, he is not good for you," my grandmother said to my Mom. While we were eating our dinner.

"I know, ma. Jwe-song-hamnida. I should have listened to you. I just want a complete family para sa mga anak ko. Ngayon ko lang nalaman na may iba siyang pamilya," sabi naman ni Mom.

"If nakinig ka lang sa akin dati pa e'di mag gra-graduate ka na sana ng Law at maganda sana ang buhay mo. Alam mong ayaw kitang makatulad sa akin na hindi kinasal sa Dad mo. But look at you may dalawa ka rin na anak at di ka rin kinasal tulad ko," sabi ulit ni Lola.

"Sorry, Mom." She took a deep breath, "I decided to continue studying Law," sabi ni Mom. My grandmother smiled, and she looks proud.

"That's good, wag kang mag alala andito lang ako para supurtahan ka," sabi ni Lola. I was six years old when I heard that conversation and I don't understand because I am still young that time.

Everyday, when I went to school I envy other kids dahil kapag sinusundo at hinahatid sila sa school kasama nila ang Mom and Dad nila. I wish I have a complete family.

"Mom? Where is my Dad and why are we staying with Lola?" I asked innocently. I was at my Mom's car going home from school.

"I... didn't know how to say this... pero minsan sa buhay natin anak may bumabalik at may umaalis. Umalis ang Dad mo pero bumalik naman sa buhay natin ang Lola mo," sabi niya sa akin, but still I wasn't satisfied with her answer.

"Saan pumunta si Dad? Di niya ba tayo love kaya niya tayo iniwan?" I asked and I was about to cry.

"Hey... don't cry... andito naman si Mommy. Ayaw mo ba kay Mommy?" she asked me and there was pain in her voice.

"Masaya akong andiyan ka Mommy," sabi ko and it made her smile.

"Do you want some ice cream?" she asked me and I nodded immediately.

"Maybe if we go to an ice cream shop I will be able to see Dad again," I said to her. Mom's smile faded. Sa ice cream shop ko kasi huling nakita si Dad before he left me alone there.

On my seventh birthday, Mom decided to have a small celebration sa isang park. Nag tayo kami ng tent and we have a barbecue. After we ate, nag stargazing kami using a telescope.

"You know mga anak... kapag masama ang loob niyo pwede kayo mag wish sa stars and your wish will come true," sabi ni Mom sa amin ni Carmen.

"Jinjja? Then, I will wish for a lot of toys!" Carmen jump out of excitement, "Kuya ikaw? Ano wish mo?" tanong sa akin ni Carmen.

"I just wish for us to be happy like this every day," sabi ko at ngumiti sa akin si Mommy and she hugged us both.

"We will, I promise," sabi niya, I felt safe and warmth sa hug niya.
