Chapter 20: A Ring?

Milo

After having to go to the doctor's to get my stitches checked out and starting chemo in the past few weeks I decided that it would be best for me to just take some time for myself and sit down and do nothing. So I begin cleaning my office out for my leave because my boss understood that I really needed to take some time off and I hear a knock at my office door.

When I turn around I see Leo with a smile on his face as he closes the door behind himself and shoves his hands in his pockets.

"What's this that the boss is saying I'm getting a temporary business partner while you're away? Where are you going?" Well I'm getting chemo and don't want to be in the office having people or potential investors questioning why my hair is falling out in chunks.

"Ya know, the twins have prom and graduation and stuff. So I want to be there for them with that stuff and I want to make sure that they're ready for college."

"You're going to let them dorm?"

"More like against my own will. Juliana was talking about how her and her boyfriend are getting more serious and was thinking about getting a place together and Isabel said that she wants her own place too. So one of them are going to take my apartment and I'm going to move back to the house."

"Woah a whole house to yourself huh?"

"If Janell doesn't tag along then yeah I finally get the house alone."

"Well ya know until you profess your love for Thalia and the two of you get married and move there." He says with a huge grin.

"Shut up." I wave him off as I put more things into the box I'm packing.

"Actually I wanted your opinion on something." When I turn back to face him he's holding a tiny box in his hand with a gorgeous diamond ring in it and a goofy grin plastered on his face.

"Leopold, I know we've known each other for a long time. And I guess this is the next step in our relationship...but the ring looks kind of small for my finger. Oh whatever, I'll make due."

"Shut up you idiot. Is it nice? Do you think January will like it." He suddenly looks nervous as he inspects the ring.

"I mean... don't you think you're doing this all so fast?" I can't help the sarcasm drip out as he shuts the box and shoves it back into his suit pocket.

"Oh you know damn sure that I bought this baby right when she told me that she liked me back."

"Well, I'm happy for you." I say as I pull him into a quick bear hug and push him out of the door. "Well what are you waiting for you bozo, go start preparing to be with the love of your life forever."

"Yes Dad." He jokes as he leaves the room.

I finish up all the paperwork that I could bring with me home and take another glance at the office in front of me.

I will be back. I'll be unpacking real soon. Just gotta keep reminding myself of that. I look down at my phone when I get a buzz. It's Thalia telling me that she'll come to pick me up from the hospital so that she can come with me to chemo. All right, if I want to get back to work then I gotta work on myself first.

"I brought you cupcakes." I say as I walk into the room and notice a few older women sitting around Milo laughing with him as a few get chemo as well. The others are just there for emotional support like I am. Good thing I brought a lot of cupcakes. I walk around the room and offer the women some of the desserts and finally get to Milo.
