Clearing his throat to himself, Justin knocks on the large wooden door blocking him from the inside of the house he hasn't been to in quite a long time.
"Hey honey, I wasn't expecting you." his mother says, swinging the door open with a confused expression.
"I know, I'm sorry. I was hoping to talk to you and dad. There are some things that I kinda wanted your advice on." he says, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Of course, of course. Let me get your dad from his study." she says. "Get yourself a drink and go to the living room."
Justin nods, listening to his mother and grabbing a water from the kitchen before sitting on one of the couches.
"Hey son." Jeremy grins, walking in with Pattie right only a few steps behind him.
"Hey dad." Justin smiles, giving him and hand shake before the two of them sit down across from him.
"So what was it you wanted to talk to us about?" Pattie asks.
"Elianna's not pregnant is she?" Jeremy jokes, giving him a look.
Justin chuckles, shaking his head. "No, no. She's not even living with me right now."
"What?" Pattie gasps.
"What happened? You guys were doing so good." Jeremy says, confused.
Justin clears his throat. "Lily Parker showed up on our doorstep."
"What?!" they exclaim.
Justin nods. "Yeah, she moved into an apartment for a couple months with her best friend and Brayden." he sighs. "After Lily came, she filed for custody and I've been so stressed I started retracting myself from her and the kids. So, she left and told me she knows I'm distracted so when I do pay attention she wants me to pay attention to the kids and not her."
"I mean, she has a point, why do you think you've retracted?" Jeremy says.
Justin shrugs, deciding to be honest.. "I don't know. Maybe because I'm scared of what's gonna happen..."
"Honey, do you really think after not showing up to court the first time, abandoning her children, not having a job... I assume?" Pattie says, pausing for him to answer.
"She doesn't." he says quickly.
She nods. "Not having them a job, I doubt she has a schedule put into place when they're already used to the one they have. She probably lives far enough away that it wouldn't be the school district that you've gotten them accepted into. Do you think with all that being against her you're really going to lose those kids?"
Justin gulps, sighing. "I mean, no. But I do think she may get visitation or something on weekends. The weekends are all I have with my kids. I need them."
She sighs. "There's gotta be compromise unfortunately."
"Isn't it possible to get her parental rights revoked?" Justin asks, his eyes lighting up a little.
"That's a long ass process, Justin." Jeremy tells him, sighing.
Justin licks his lips. "Elianna would understand. I mean, if that happens I'm already adopting Brayden. She could adopt Elena and Kameron. They already consider her their mom. I mean, Kameron called her mommy the other day and he knows she's not."
"I mean, you have a point but I think before you go for that you need to talk to Elianna." Pattie tells him.
He nods. "I know."
"But, overall honey, either way, I don't think you should worry as much as you're worrying. You've done everything for them. You've raised them. Sure, with the help of Mama Lee but that's the thing. She helped because their mother wasn't there to do that." Pattie says.
Jeremy nods. "You're mother's right. You work so hard to give them the life they deserve despite their mother not being around. There's a roof over their heads, food on their plates every day. Clothes on their bodies. You have them on a schedule they abide to, you have them accepted into a school already, you spend time with them, you've brought someone in their life to treat them like their her own children. They now have a sense of having a mom. That's the important stuff."
Justin grins a little, nodding. "Yeah, you're right. I need to stop worrying so much and focus on the kids. I'm not and that's doing the exact opposite of what I want. That's making me just as bad as her."
His parents give him a sad look, nodding.
"I'm gonna go home and spend some time with my kids." he smiles.
"Good idea." Jeremy says, nodding.
Getting up, Justin says goodbye to his parents, making his way home and spending time with his kids as much as he can before it's time to go to work the following day.
