I reached my door but to my shock, it's already opened. As an initial reaction, I took my pepper spray ready and entered the room. I got ready for defenses when I realized it was just Jcee sleeping on the couch.
This guy can kill me anytime!
I locked the door and bend over him. He's still gorgeous as ever but that's not my agenda tonight. A loud slap came down to his arm and that woke him immediately.
"What the hell, Ash?" He shouted while trying to sit.
Who would expect me to be calm? "You, asshole, left the door unlocked! And what if they killed you here, rich kid?"
He smiled brightly at me. What's so making him happy when I'm angry? "I can see you're concerned but you don't have to burst my peaceful bubble."
And I gave him another slap... in the arm, of course. I don't slap people in the face randomly. "I'm not concerned. It's just that I would be the primary suspect if you died in my apartment! Of course they'll ask me if I gave you spare keys and I would say no since that's the truth! But that would lead to suspecting me more! So stop entering my place with your unlocking skills and would you please at least lock the door if you're going to sleep!"
But all my efforts in talking just flushed away with the wind. He stared at me, amused by me. What the hell is wrong with him? Being so happy and amused when I'm dead mad! "I guess I have a smart mum over here, huh, lawyer?"
I rolled my eyes and sat in defeat. Nothing will ever digest in his stupid mind. "Why are you here?"
"Well,..." He stared at the ceiling dramatically. "... I'm always here. Everyday for a month now. But since I always end up waiting for more than five hours and eating the ice cream alone, I always choose to go home. For a change, I waited for a little bit longer, just got my luck, I got slapped." A hint of hurt sparkled in his eyes. Last time I saw this in his eyes was when he saw me crying at Flynn's place. I'd rather see him crying than these eyes. The guilt covered my heart.
"I'm sorry." I muttered, so he just sighed.
"You're with Jared? I heard you're dating him. Ironically, I am the last one to know when I am your best friend." Now that's harsh. Okay, the guilt which just covered me started eating me now!
I looked at him in the eyes but I could take the hurt he is displaying. So, I looked down.
"You know why Nate had to race with me just to be with you before? You know why I hated him so much?" Of course Jcee's being jealous and I'm being stupid to ignore him. "Now, I don't want to end up hating Jared. I don't want to have to race with him just to fight for you!"
I curled my brows. "What do you mean fight for me?" Does that mean he likes me or something? It can't be. We're friends and nothing more than that.
"Don't get me wrong, Ash. And don't get Jared wrong, too. He's a dick! He's mad, he's lonely and frustrated. He missed Stacy so much. He loves her too much." He held my arm gently. "And he's just seeing her in you, Ash. You're just a recovery over Stacy, a rebound, for that matter." He said as a fact.
"Why would he see her in me?"
"It's because, you look alike." I furrowed my brows like it's the most ridiculous thing in the world. "Remember when you first curled your hair and put on much make up? When the four of us looked at you." Then I remembered. They looked weird that night. Well if Jcee didn't smile, I would feel awkward. "How he looked at you with hurt eyes?"
I looked away. Jcee's right. During those first few meetings we had. His eyes always glitter in a way that form tears but not really teary. Maybe Jcee's right. I'm just an option. But a part of me is telling me to trust Jared. He is a good person. Or is he?
