She was sick the day it happened, when she felt like the world would fall apart. Dragging herself out of bed that morning, stomach lurching and turning into sharp knots that made her miss her morning classes and show up late to English.

Rumours had already spread by then, the Cullen's having left town, packing their things and disappearing without a trace, but it didn't seem true until she stumbled back out to the parking lot to find their spots empty, and the cherry red pick-up she loved so much nowhere to be found.

Her knees had grown weak, the floor swaying dangerously beneath her, and Roman thought it was a miracle that she hadn't collapsed in a heap on the wet pavement - whispered words still passing around her.

She knew, quite like how she knew the very first time she saw them, that this wasn't right, that something more was to come. Roman wished very much to be wrong, that the worry that ate at her insides was only something she conjured herself, but then the calls started - Chief Swan was looking for his daughter, the girl had never come home that night.

It hadn't been much of a choice to seek the girl out, every part of her screaming to find her, that it was the most important thing she had to do. It was like a sense, Roman had always been best at hide and seek as a kid, undefeated hider and seeker -finding the girl she loved would have been easy.

And as she poured over the maps with a long-haired boy, Roman knew that they were not searching in the right places. That the clumsy girl would stumble off the path searching but would never make it as far as the men around her were predicting.

More than ready to dart into the forest herself, Roman did collapse to the muddy ground when they carried her, wet, shaking and unresponsive from the woods.

She didn't realize she was crying until she heard her own sobs over Bella's mumbled gasps begging for Edward to return.

So this was actually pretty hard to write because of the awkwardness of the scene part of it and Roman not being fully introduced yet.
