I landed and went straight to my hotel room, unpacked and crashed. The jet lag I was already experiencing was insane, and it was even worse the next morning.
When my alarm went off at 7 a.m., I could barely open my eyes. I was set to meet with Val and her team at 10, provided I could get out of bed. Surprisingly enough, I did, and groggily walked to the bathroom to throw myself into the shower.
Once I was cleaned up, I blow dried my hair and styled it to the best of my abilities. It had been ages since I actually curled or straightened or braided or did anything to my hair. I slapped on some makeup and got dressed into a white button down and a blue pencil skirt. I finished off my outfit with some jewelry.
At 9, I left the hotel and hailed a cab to get to the building site. It was about a 45 minute ride, due to the busy morning commuters.
Once I reached the site, I realized just how much I was up to. The house wasn't too big, but it wasn't little by any means. I could tell just by looking at the outside that the inside would be intricate and a challenge to work with.
Alas, I still moved forward, and walked to the house. A man was waiting for me, and led me to the room where my temporary higher-ups were sitting.
"Ah!" A red-haired woman stood excitedly. "You must be Kendall!"
"Yes," I replied with a smile. She held no hesitation in giving me a hug. I could smell the ammonia in her clearly freshly dyed hair. "I'm assuming you're Val?"
She nodded. "You assumed correct. How was your flight?"
"I'm a little jet lagged, but I'm glad to be here," I said.
"Well we're super excited to have you!" Val exclaimed. "I was worried we would have to turn down this gorgeous piece of property, but you're really saving our asses here. We'll make sure to pay you well."
I held my hands up. "Don't worry about that."
Valerie rolled her eyes and laughed, then gestured for me to sit. "So, this house is only one story, but still pretty spacious. Three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms. Obviously, it's lacking some pizzazz out front, which I trust you to fix, but outback, there's an even bigger problem. Follow me." Val got up and walked through the house, her heels clicking on the polished wood floors. I followed her outside and immediately saw the problem. "This pool is an eye sore. I don't know what to do with it or how to make it look better. You can do that, right?"
"Um..." I thought aloud, "I can certainly try."
"Great!" She grinned.
Val continued on, giving me full tour of the house. It was honestly beautiful, and as I walked through it, I began to get ideas on sight of certain things. I'd put marble counters in the kitchen, mirrors on the ceiling in the halls. I got giddy thinking of all my options.
"So, our client will be flying in any time, I'm not quite sure of the real ETA, but I guess we'll find out," she told me.
"Oh, do you know who it is?" I asked.
She shook her head. "Unfortunately, I don't. We've been communicating through emails. But once they arrive, we'll all be introduced and you'll have plenty of time to get to know them."
"Plenty of time?" I questioned.
Val looked at my funny. "You're going to be here for a while, you know that, right?"
"How long is a while?"
"Anywhere from three to six months," she shrugged. "This isn't just a two week fixer upper."
