Kendall's POV
We left East Lansing a few days later to begin our journey home, and more importantly, our journey to reunite with Brendon's parents.
Brendon held my hand as we drove through Las Vegas. One foot was on the gas pedal, the other was shaking his leg with a feverish rhythm.
"Nervous?" I asked.
"How'd you know?" He shot.
"Hey..." I warned.
Brendon huffed. "Sorry."
I rolled my eyes. "Do you know where you're going?"
"Yes."
"Brendon, soften up," I advised. He furrowed his brows and frowned at me.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"I mean that you're not going to make any progress with your parents if you're being an ass," I stated bluntly. "Chill out. Loosen up. Relax. You should be happy to see them."
"You're talking like you know my parents better than I do," Brendon joked.
I shrugged. "What can I say? Grace and I talked a lot."
Brendon rolled his eyes and said, "I know."
It was only a short matter of time until we pulled up to the Urie residence. Brendon parked the car and shut it off, but remained in the driver's seat. I looked at him expectantly.
"Let's go," I prompted him.
We got out of the car and walked to the porch. I stood to the side, out of sight, and let Brendon take the lead.
"You'll be here when I come get you?" He questioned.
I nodded. "Right here. You can do this."
I sat down in a chair and waited as Brendon knocked on the door. Quietly, I made sure that I would be undetected by whoever opened the door. I was either going to be backup, or a bonus. Either one.
The door swung open, and I heard a gasp.
"Brendon?" Grace's voice was full of shock.
"Hi mom," Brendon greeted her. I stifled a laugh; since Brendon had grown so much, he now towered over her even more than he did in the past. Brendon sent me a nervous side eye. "Can I come in?"
"Yes, yes!" She ushered him in excitedly. "How are you? What have you been up to?"
Their voices faded behind the door as Grace shut it. I was happy that she had so easily accepted him already.
I took a deep breath and looked at the sky. It was dim, due to the smog of Vegas, but the stars were still partially visible. A settling peace overtook me as I thought about how far I'd come since the last time I had seen this sky. Then an uncontrollable smile spread across my face as I thought about the fact that I had ended up back in Las Vegas with the same person I had started my journey here with.
After a little while, Brendon opened the door. He had that look on his face that he wore after he had been smiling and laughing for a while, and it told me things had gone well.
"Come on," he mocked my former urgency. I squinted at him and then got up. I was excited to see his parents.
As soon as I was close enough to him, Brendon grabbed my hand and interlaced our fingers. He tugged me along, practically dragging me through the living room and into the kitchen where I assumed his parents were.
"You guys remember Kendall, right?" Brendon asked his parents. Grace and Boyd both smiled warmly.
"Of course," Boyd said.
