"Of course," Brendon dismissed me. "I can understand why you're nervous. This is a big project for you."

I nodded. "Yes, well, I'm happy to be here. If you'll follow me, we can get started."

"Lead the way," Brendon said. I grinned rudely and walked in front of him, starting down the hallway. Val looked sick with nerves and panic.

"So, I'm sure you already know that it's two stories," I assumed. He nodded. "There's a pool out back that I'm going to redo for you, and I'll be doing some decorating on the face of the house. Is there anything you'd like done on the exterior?"

Brendon thought for a second, then shook his head. "No, not that I can think of."

"Okay, let's keep going then," I sighed.

I showed him through all the rooms and hallways, telling him ideas that I had for certain parts of the house. He listened attentively and, surprisingly, he didn't interfere much. That is, until we got to the master bedroom.

"Last stop, the master bedroom." I walked in and turned to face him. "As you can see, there's plenty of room for whatever activities you're into."

Brendon smiled sarcastically. "I think you know what I'm into."

"It's been a while," I shrugged. "I'm sure that red head would know better. Or any of the other girls that you've been shagging."

"What makes you think that?" He asked defensively.

"I know you," I scoffed.

"Oh, do you?" He taunted. "You've been acting like you don't."

I bit my tongue; if Val were to hear us bickering, my ass would be on the line. I simply shrugged and saw myself out. Brendon's irritated laugh was audible, but I kept my eyes forward.

"Okay, the tour's done," I said once I reached Val.

"Great, you're free to go," she dismissed me.

I hurried back to my hotel room, wanting some peace and quiet. However, I didn't get that, because I walked into my hotel room to hear my phone ringing. I sulked over to it and checked it. It was David.

Here goes nothing.

"Hey baby," I answered.

"Kendall, where the FUCK are you?!" David screamed. My eardrum began to ache immediately.

"David, please just listen to me," I pleaded. "This is a really important job for me. If I hadn't taken this offer, I would've been fired. Then we would have lost the house and everything else we pay for. Please use your head right now!" I urged him, "When this is all over, I'll come home, and we can take a vacation or something to ease the stress. I know this is so hard for you, but please just understand why I'm doing this."

"Why didn't you tell me you were leaving?" He asked. His voice almost sounded sad.

"Because I know you didn't want me to go," I said. "I figured it would be easier for you this way."

"Jesus, Kendall!" He barked. "I was about to put out a police report! I thought you were kidnapped!"

I was quiet for a minute, trying to decipher his mood. David was so worried about me being hurt, but yet, I was still vying for my life with him? When do things start to make sense?

"I'm sorry," I apologized. "I'll be home sometime soon, but I can't have my phone on me during work. I might not be able to keep in touch very well."

"You will call me twice a day," he commanded, "once when you wake up, once when you go to bed."

"I hope you enjoy being woken up in the middle of the night then. There's a time change."
