Friday had rolled around, and I was doing well in Palo Verde. Mrs. Brennan had told the truth - it was so easy to make friends here.

By Wednesday, I had already found a group of girls to sit with at lunch that had the same schedule as me. Jessi, Taylor, Maria and Anna were the group of girls that had laughed at me Monday morning in physics, but they informed me after class that they only had good intentions. They were friendly.

This table was right beside the table that Brendon sat at every day. He and I sat so that if we looked past our rows of friends, we could see each other.

I sat in the cafeteria, waiting for class to start. The morning sun was peeking through the windows and awakening the eyes of the sleepy students around me. Mrs. Brennan approached me.

"So, how did the week go? Was I right?" She asked.

"Yeah, actually, you were," I laughed. She smiled pridefully. "I've made a few friends. It's pretty nice to not worry about that. Everyone's friendly."

"Who's your crowd?" She questioned.

"Um, Maria, Taylor, Jessi and Anna," I replied.

"Be careful with them," Brennan warned me, "they're nice, but if you get on their bad side by any chance, they're real bitches. I've had them in my office a time or two."

I was taken aback at the school counselor calling a group of students bitches, but nevertheless, laughed. She kept it real.

"I'll keep that in mind, thanks." The bell rang, signaling the passing period for first hour. "I gotta get to class, see ya."

I walked to physics and sat with my group of 'bitches'. They greeted me with grins and 'good morning's.

"Hey, Ken," Anna leaned in close to me. "There's a party tonight at Maria's. You coming?"

"Are her parents going to be there?" I asked.

"No," Anna laughed. "Her parents don't care anyway. They've got a huge house with literal cabinets filled with drinks. So I ask again, are you coming or what?"

I shrugged. "Sure."

"You gonna bring a plus one?" Taylor grinned.

"A plus one?" I mimicked. "As if I have one. You guys are my plus one. Or, four, I guess."

Taylor laughed. "Come on, Kendall. You and that guy over there chat it up all the time. We see you!"

I rolled my eyes at their immature conclusions. "We are friends, you freaks. Do I have to bring him?"

They all shrugged and nodded.

"It's up to you, though. It was just a thought," Taylor assured me.

I spaced the rest of the class out and waited to go to my next few classes. Really, I was just waiting on vocal to come around so I could talk to Brendon about my newfound plans for the night ahead.

Once it did, I was eager to sit down next to him. I did so, and he flashed me a pearly white smile accompanied by his signature brown eyes.

"Hey," he greeted.

"Hi," I replied. "Um, do you have plans tonight?"

"Yeah, I'm working the local soup kitchen," Brendon said, as if it should be obvious.

Suddenly, I felt bad for wanting to go party.

"I'm kidding, my God you're gullible," he laughed and nudged my shoulder.

"I hate you," I lied.

"I'm sure you do," he nodded. "Anyway, why do you ask?"

"Well, Maria's having a party, and I wanted to ask if you'd come with me?"
