"So, are you going to tell me why you are violently stabbing your cheese fries?" Roni asked Kassidy. Kassidy had come in the bar at least 30 minutes ago and hadn't said much of anything but Roni could tell she was upset.
"Rogers and I got into a fight." Kassidy said and shrugged before shoving a fork full of cheese fries into her mouth. Roni took her coke glass and refilled it.
"You two are getting pretty serious then?" Roni asked. Kassidy took a sip of her coke washing down the fries.
"We were, I guess. It was a short run."
"What happened?" Roni asked.
"He lied." Kassidy shrugged. Roni sighed and put her hands on her hips.
"And you haven't?"
"I didn't lie. I hid things, he snooped but ever since then I have told him everything he wanted to know. He lied about seeing Will."
"He did it to keep you safe." Roni defended Rogers.
"He still lied."
"Okay, are you actually mad that he lied or are you just looking for an excuse to bolt?"
"Why would I look for an excuse to bolt?" Kassidy asked.
"I know you Kassidy. You are flighty. The second things get too real for you, you are gone. I get it, he should have told you the truth but he did it to protect you, and Will asked him too. That should count for something." Kassidy just looked away knowing that Roni was right but was too stubborn to admit it.
"Go home Kass." Roni sighed. "Just talk to him. He's a great guy, don't let those pesky walls kick him back out."
Home. It had been so long since she had an actual home to go to. She sighed.
"Fine. I will talk to him. After I finish these fries." Kassidy said and smiled. Roni ducked down and grabbed a to go box and dumped her fries in it.
"Go." She smirked.
"Okay, okay.. I'm going." Kassidy sighed and picked up her to go box and stood off the stool and started walking out of the bar. She stopped and looked over her shoulder and smiled. "Thanks Roni."
"It's what I'm here for." She grinned and waved Kassidy along.
-----------------------------
Kassidy was walking back to Rogers house, taking the long way around to clear her thoughts. Roni was right, of course she was mad that Rogers had lied about Will but she was using it as an excuse to run. She really liked him and was just trying to save herself from inevitable heartbreak. Rogers deserved better than that. He deserved better than her. She heard a car behind her pulling up slowly and a door open.
"Kass."
She turned around and saw Rogers.
"Detective." She responded.
"Please, get in the car. Talk to me." He pleaded with her and to his surprise she walked over and got in the car. He thought it would have been more of a fight than that and he had prepared a speech, and if that hadn't worked he was fully prepared to throw her stubborn ass in the car. He got in the car and looked at her.
"I've got to be honest I didn't think that was going to be that easy." Rogers said.
"Me either." Kassidy shrugged. "Every part of me is telling me to fucking run."
Rogers put his seatbelt back on and started the drive home.
"I'm sorry I lied about Will."
"I'm not mad about that anymore. Just..no more lies." Kassidy said.
"Okay, don't make coffee anymore." He chuckled. Kassidy just smirked.
"Why do you want to run?" He asked.
"Because you deserve better than me. You're too nice."
"You forget that I locked you in a holding cell for three days and fed you bologna." Rogers smiled. Kassidy just nodded.
"Kass..I'm not going anywhere. I'm not him. I am not without flaws but I am going to do my damn best not to break your heart I need you to trust me."
"I do trust you James. I told you I was a flight risk. I am always looking for a reason to run" She frowned. Rogers pulled up into the driveway.
"And I told you I like a challenge. You aren't going to scare me away Kassidy Cole. I won't let you."
Kassidy smiled and unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car.
"What is this?" Rogers asked taking the to go box from her hand.
"Cheese fries from Roni." Kassidy grinned as they walked into the house kicking their shoes off at the door.
"Want to share?" Rogers put the to go box on the counter.
"Later." He said and took her hand leading her down the hall.
"What are you doing?" Kassidy asked as Rogers pulled her into his bedroom.
"You said you are always looking for a reason to run. I'm giving you a reason to stay." He said and crashed his lips into hers. Kassidy pulled away.
"I thought you were wai-" She started but Rogers silenced her with another searing kiss. Kassidy tangled her fingers into his dark locks giving his hair a slight tug causing him to growl against her lips.He walked her backwards until the back of her knees hit the bed and she lost balance and fell backwards bringing him with her. Kassidy sat up a little and pulled her tee shirt over her shoulders. Rogers reached around behind her back and unhooked her bra with one go and pulled it off tossing it aside. Kassidy threw her arm over her now exposed chest and looked away.
"You don't have to hide from me Kassidy. You are beautiful." He smiled and moved her arm placing tender kisses all over her chest before peeling his own shirt off. Kassidy ran her hands through his dark chest hair while Rogers snaked his hands down to the button on her jeans. It opened with a Snap. He hooked his fingers around the Jeans and pulled them off of her hips and down her legs. Tossing them somewhere in the room He ran his hands up her bare legs. Kassidy giggled as he placed kisses on her thighs the scruff on his face tickled her skin.
He grinned up at her and she bit her lip.
"We appear to be uneven detective." She said with a sly smile and a wiggle of her eyebrows as she adjusted herself so she was on her knees on the bed crawling towards him.
"Then by all means, let's fix that." He purred in her ear. Kassidy unbuttoned his black jeans and pushed them down. He kicked them off and climbed up onto the bed with her laying her back gently against the pillows.Kassidy propped herself up on her elbows only to be pushed back down.
"Just let me take care of you." Rogers smiled.
---------------------------------
It wasn't long before their limbs were tangled together in the black silk sheets. Kassidy's blonde curly bangs were damp with sweat and sticking to her forehead. She couldn't remember a time she had ever felt such passion from sex. Not with Will, not with anyone but the man above her mumbling her name as he moved within her.She could feel how much he cared for her and how much he wanted her to know it and she would sell her soul for this bliss to never stop She linked her fingers tightly with his and buried her face into his sweat glistened neck biting her lip as she felt a familiar quake in her body. Rogers collapsed onto her both of them breathing rough and ragged. He pressed tender hot kisses up her chest and looked up at her smiling at her smile.
-------------------------------------------
After a much needed shower, which they shared Kassidy curled up into Rogers chest breathing in the smell of his soap, it had become a comforting smell for her since moving in. She associated it with feeling safe. She snuggled as close as she possibly could to him as he pulled the comforter up over them.
"Are you okay?" He asked her before pressing a kiss to her temple.
"I'm overjoyed." She smiled at him.
"You are clinging to me like a Koala, love." He chuckled.
"I haven't felt this in years. I'm enjoying it."
"Felt what?" Rogers asked.
"Safe." She said and brushed her cheek against his chest. Her eyelids felt like they weighed tons.
"You never have to not feel safe again." He whispered into her hair. "Sleep love."
Kassidy smiled and closed her eyes allowing herself to drift.
