Kaj just started talking to everyone in Dutch as he began his approach to Scheveningen. Rashelle looked up and caught a couple of words here and there. They were trying to decide something about Scheveningen.
"What's up?" she asked Sam who said something to Kaj and then looked over at her.
"We are deciding where to park. We're here too early to check in at the hotel, so we'll probably just park close to People." He told her but now she was even more confused. As if he knew exactly what she was thinking, Sam added,
"People is the name of the Beach Club we're going to." he explained. Rashelle took a breath.
"Aww, I see. That makes sense now. Club People, huh? Unique." She told him and he shrugged with a smirk.
"There are a lot of names like that here." he told her and then was distracted by more Dutch conversation. Rashelle just craned her neck to see out the window, hoping to get a glimpse of the ocean, but no joy just yet. They seemed to be driving around in circles for a while before finally finding a place to park.
"Bring your bathing suit." Sam told her as they all filed out of the Van and walked around to grab their things from the back hatch. "You can change in their toilet. It doesn't cost money here." He told her with a grin. Rashelle smiled and nodded and collected her backpack, checking to make certain that she had put her bathing suit and her purse inside. She hefted it onto her back and followed everyone down the road. They passed a big sign that said, 'Kijkduin Promenade' but they kept on walking past it.
When they got to the next intersection past an enormous bicycle parking area, they turned right and made their way towards a funny old red boat at the end of the road bordered on each side by grass covered hills. She still couldn't see the ocean yet, or more specifically, the North Sea but she was getting that feeling inside that she got right before something amazing happened. They kept on walking and finally, as they reached the end of the walkway, she realized that the big red boat was actually a children's play structure. Adorable! She thought and then she saw it...
The entire horizon line was nothing but beach for far as she could see in either direction and beyond that - the sea!! It seemed so calm at the moment and the sun above was warm but the breezes were cool and refreshing. It was perfect! she thought and just stood there for a moment and took it all in. She didn't even notice that Samuel had his eyes on her the whole time, enjoying the moment equally as well. She seemed so blissful, he thought. A nature-girl after his own heart, he thought. But was she? He thought next. After his heart? he wondered. And was that a good thing? He pondered. Too many questions! Jezus! He scolded himself inside his head.
Rashelle turned towards him then and was all smiles and sparkling eyes and he felt his heart skip a beat. If she wanted his heart, it would definitely be a good thing, he decided - because she already had his, he suddenly realized. For good or bad, it was done and he was falling hard... again! Sam's conscience was threatening to start lecturing him - again - for being too impulsive with his relationships with girls, but he wouldn't hear it... not right then anyway. Life was happening and he didn't want to miss a single moment!
Sam and Rashelle walked side by side past the little kid's play area and stepped onto a little overgrown dirt path that led southwards toward the shore. Everyone cut across the dense mounds of seagrass to get to the concrete path on the other side and then followed it straight down to the beach itself. Up ahead there were two big buildings with signs that said, Le Club Maritim and BLOW Surfschool. Interesting, she thought, but neither one was called, People, she noted so she just continued following the rest of the group down the beach path leading southwards and off in the distance, she saw another building that somewhat resembled Le Club Maritim.
