An hour after shutting the door, the music grew fainter and fainter. I shuffled off my bed heading down the wooden steps seeing Ali giggling in joy talking with my parents. Ambling over, I stood close by her side wanting to be apart of their conversation as her smile faded seeing my presence.
"Sienna, I'm really sorry. I should've known it was too soon for you to see them, but they were in town and we haven't see them for so long and —"
"It's fine. I'm going to be alright," I comforted her interrupting the raven-haired girl in the process.
"Good." her smile widened.
"We actually have some great news," my mother giggled looking at Ali as my father was smiling as well.
"What is it?" I chuckled awkwardly.
"I'm their new client!" she squealed as the bright flashes of grins corrupt.
"What? How did this happen?" I giggled in excitement.
"We heard her sing some karaoke and she's amazing. The company has been looking for new faces anyway, so why not have a family friend be one." my mother smiled.
"That's incredible! Congratulations," I smiled giving her a side hug.
"I might head up to New York this summer to meet and finalize all the paperwork. I'll see you there," she told as I nodded.
"It's better to have some familiar faces, right?" my dad stayed delighted at the news as I nodded again.
"What song were you singing?"
"'Stitches' by Shawn Mendes — it was first a job between Zach and I, but I didn't realize it could open a door for a musical career," she chuckled jumping a bit.
"Hey! I heard my name," Zach smiled at Ali as he held her from the waist.
"I was just telling Sienna about the news," she snickered as a reply while my parents smiled at their young love.
"I didn't know you were here. I thought all the guys left," I faked a chuckled trying not to show how uncomfortable I am with the guys still around.
"They did, but I didn't. Ali said she could just give me a ride back home when she leaves," he smiled at me reassuringly knowing my drama with his band mate.
"Oh okay," I nodded.
"Ali, why don't you sing us one more song!" my mother requested as Ali nodded grabbing the mice close to the television.
"I haven't heard you sing since middle school," I fumbled as she cringed at the memories.
"I've changed since then — at least I hope," she smiled while Zach stood by her side.
"Duet?" he asked.
"Of course," she glistened in glee.
"Any requests?" she sassed happily.
"'Lovely" by Billie Eilish and Khalid," I told her as she nodded.
"Good choice." she smirked.
Slowly the piano music drifted into the room as the duo's eyes met. Ali looked to the ground waiting for the moment to start as Zach faced her as if she was his entire world. A smile flew on my face hearing her voice once more.
"Isn't it lovely, all alone. Heart made of glass —my mind is stone. Tear me to pieces — skin to bone. Hello, welcome home."
Ali sang with so much emotion as if she has been touched by the feeling of heartbreak herself; it's because she has. Looking at Zach, I saw the hesitation in her voice singing the lyrics directly towards him. With one glance, she admitted the hurt he had made her feel, but how times have changed.
