His laugh echoed through the phone as I was sorting through my desk. Daniel and I were on the phone - yet I've been talking to him none stop for the past couple of days; he would be leaving for tour again tomorrow. The slight realization has hurt - but we promised each other that we would keep in touch.
We decided our last day to go to out - just us. His birthday would be next week, but I wouldn't be with him since tour would be going to Texas and Florida. Inside my bag, there were watermelon slices and a small box as his birthday surprise.
"I swear, I can't find anything after she touched it," I chuckled trying to find a pen after my mother "sorted" my desk.
"I have to go to the grocery real quick, but we're still up for the beach later right?" he chuckled at my actions as I nodded.
"I'll see you later," I smiled as he grinned hanging up.
I was lucky enough to find the locket stored carefully on the same desk making me blush with happiness. I smiled remembering the memories of Daniel giving it to me last Christmas. I wasn't the most organized person, but I made sure to keep this locket safe. Wrapping it around my neck, I sighed knowing Dani would be greeted with a pleasant surprise. Then, I realized I have to look for the pen once more.
After twenty minutes of looking through my desk, I noticed I was missing quite a few items including my journal. I shook my head maybe thinking it was on my bedside table - yet no luck. As I finally gave up on looking, a huge screeched was heard from downstairs including footsteps inking their way closer to my door knock.
I heard my mother's slight giggles from the other side of the door as she knocked as I let them in. My mother was energetic as my father kept a sly grin making me confused. The pair was seated on my bed looking at me waiting for my attention as I saw my mother reached out with a yellow envelope. Still with no verbal conversation, I took the pavement reaching it I it my arms with them carefully looking at me.
As I unraveled the paper, I was still beyond confused as my father started to take his phone out video tapping me. When I ripped the hard envelope open, I saw greeted with a large packet hidden inside. I could see from the corner of my eye my mother's extended smile with hands over her lips waiting for my reaction.
On my finger tips was the packet that would change my life. I quickly read the paperwork as I gave the due both a shocked expression as screaming was dialed through the room. My mother immediately grabbed me giving me a warm hug as my father was screaming in the camera of his phone in delight.
I got into NYU.
"I don't understand. I thought I was on the waiting list," I told them as my father gave me a proud grin.
"You were, but you're mother found this notebook on your desk with impeccable writing! And, when I told Mrs. Ren, she had to see it, so we sent it in. Obviously, she thought it was amazing as well," my dad beamed with pride as my face dropped.
"You looked at my writing?" I asked fearful.
That writing was the only thing I was able to escape the horrors of reality with. Writing my deepest feelings and thoughts was an escape that helped me in my lightest and darkest moment. In the past, I wanted to keep it a secret, but now that was down the drain.
My mother saw the fear in my eyes as she started to comfort me acknowledging her steps into my personal life.
"Only a couple pages, sweetie - nothing major," she reassured me as I nodded.
"Yeah - it's fine. I got into NYU anyway, so it worked out in the end, right?" I smiled to them as they dig into hugging me once more.
They soon fled the bedroom as I was left with the packet in my hands smiling from ear to ear. I checked the clock quickly seeing that Daniel would pick me up soon as I quickly called him for the news. As the phone rang, I was packing my small backpack as we would spend our last moments in the sand. Suddenly, his face popped up with glee.
