Sam glances away from his computer screen when he feels Colby stir in his sleep, the brunette instantly snuggling closer to his best friend. The blonde's arm tighten around the boy's waist as he looks back to the screen, the fingers of his free hand sliding across the touchpad.
He's scrolling through comments. Again. It's been a couple weeks since the boys uploaded their last video and they're still getting so many questions from their fans ; some they don't want to answer and others they don't even have an answer for. Most comments are positive though, expressing their eternal support for the duo and it honestly warms Sam's heart.
Then Sam moves on to Twitter, which he usually checks multiple times throughout the day unlike YouTube. The last thing he's tweeted is a picture of him, Colby and all their roommates yesterday and it didn't take long until it was reposted on every Instagram fan account. That's understandable since none of them has been much active on social media lately, except for the regular videos Aaron, Jake and Corey still post on YouTube. But what made the fans' heart melt is their position in the picture because it's the 6 of them, Devyn included, hugging, the picture being taken on a particularly hard night for the roommates because they'd finally sat down and actually talked. It'd felt like they hadn't had a house meeting like this one in so long and they all had so many things they needed to let out.
"I love that picture."
Sam jumps slightly when Colby speaks, he didn't notice he was awake. His fingers start tapping the brunette's hip gently while his lips curl into a smile.
"Good morning." He says softly. "And I love it too."
"Mornin'." Colby mumbles as he nuzzles his face in the crook of Sam's neck, earning a chuckle from the boy.
They lay like that for a while, Colby listening to Sam's steady breathing and the constant click of the computer. Then, all of a sudden, he lifts his head up and rolls onto his stomach, causing Sam's hand to now rest on the small of his back.
"Can we go on a walk ?"
Sam's eyes widen a bit before meeting Colby's and he nods his head, grinning at the other.
"Of course."
The pair gets up and Sam walks to the door but stops in his tracks when Colby asks in a small voice :
"Swap ?"
Sam giggles, replying with a nod before rushing into his room and picking out a baby blue Beyond The Norm hoodie. He then walks back to his door and the boys each throws their hoodie to the other from their own doorway before quickly changing into it. They also throw on clean shorts and head downstairs, noticing how quiet the house is. Usually you can hear Aaron raging on Fortnite and the echo of chatters, but today : nothing.
Soon enough Sam and Colby are walking down the sidewalk in a comfortable silence, enjoying the warm weather.
Until Colby breaks the silence in a quiet, timid voice.
"Sam, how do you feel about this ?"
The blonde shrugs his shoulders, shoving his hands in the pocket of his hoodie.
"Good. We haven't gone on a simple walk like this in ages."
Colby shakes his head, letting out a small laugh as he figures he needs to be more specific.
"No, I mean... How do you feel about this whole situation ? You're always avoiding the topic for me but everything doesn't have to be about me. You're important too."
Sam's considered lying but it's useless, Colby's no fool and the brunette hates when people sugar-coat things just to avoid hurting him. He loves bluntness. And Sam knows that, but he can't help purposely avoiding the main problem.
"I'm okay, I have you by my side and it's all that matters to me."
Colby can't help but roll his eyes at his best friend's stubborn, although cute, choice of words.
"Stop beating around the bush, Sam. I know you're tired."
The blonde frowns, shaking his head. "I'm not."
Colby stops walking and Sam does too once he realizes the brunette's not walking by his side anymore. The blonde turns around and tilts his head to the side, gazing curiously at his best friend.
"You are. I can see it when I accidentally wake you up because you're not a very deep sleeper, and I can hear it when you rant at night just to help me fall asleep because your voice keeps cracking when you're exhausted." Colby approaches Sam slowly, his sad eyes and shaky hands matching the other's. "Sammy, I love you and I know you better than anyone else in the world."
Sam should've focused on the fact that Colby's pointing out the obvious : his lack of energy. However it's like he's only heard one thing come out of Colby's mouth.
"You... love me ?"
It's stupid, how he feels the need to repeat it because as soon as the words slip past his lips, he almost facepalms at the realization that Cobly doesn't mean it the way he wants him to. They're best friends, of course Colby loves him.
But little does he know, Colby does love Sam the way the blonde wants him to.
The boys are standing only inches apart, both with their hands in their pocket. None of them finds it weird how they've grown used to that kind of proximity while months ago, they would've been scared of it being 'too gay'. Silently, they stare into each other's eyes, forgetting that they're outside, on the sidewalk, in the view of anybody who drives or walks by.
"Is that even a question ?"
Sam raises an eyebrow at how confident Colby suddenly sounds, confidence hasn't been part of the boy's life for a while now, Sam's forgotten how confident Colby was like.
But Sam smiles fondly, scoffing jokingly as he pulls his hands out of his pocket and slips them in Colby's. The brunette jumps at the sudden coldness, letting out a scoff.
"Dude, your hands are cold !"
Sam rolls his eyes, stepping closer to his best friend. "Don't dude-zone me when I'm about to kiss you, you idiot !"
Colby grins, raising an eyebrow in a challenging way. "What if I kiss you first ?"
"Well, if you keep on babbling, I'm gonna h-"
Sam gets cut off when a pair of soft lips is pressed against his lightly, so lightly he's not even sure it's really happened until Colby places another, longer kiss on the blonde's lips. Sweet shivers run down both boys' spine as their fingers intertwine, blending together just like their mouths.
When they pull away, they stand still, a goofy smile on their face.
"Well, if you keep on babbling..." Colby mocks Sam gently, giggling afterwards at the playful glare he gets from him. "You still haven't told me how you feel about everything though."
Sam sighs, nodding his head slowly and speaking in a careful tone. "Let's talk about it when we get home, okay ? For now, I wanna enjoy this moment with you."
Colby wants to protest but he knows better than to do so, so he agrees and places one last kiss on Sam's nose, smiling at the way the blonde's face lights up at the gesture.
"Anything for you."
