It had been 3 weeks.

3 weeks since he'd left her alone on that roof.

3 weeks since he came back to get her and found nothing but broken glass and water on the rooftop.

Neither Clary or Sebastian had been on the rooftop.

"Jace. There's a meeting in the library." Izzy said, standing in the doorway of his room.

"I'm not going." Jace said shortly.

"It's about Clary." Izzy said. Jace sat up and looked at her.

"Have they found her? Is she coming back?" Jace asked walking towards Izzy.

"I don't know. But let's go. They're starting soon." Izzy said. Jace followed Izzy towards the library and saw the Consul standing in front of a group of Shadowhunters.

"There has been no sign of Clarissa Fairchild or Jonathan Morgenstern in New York or in Idris. We've been searching for 3 weeks and we will no longer be sending out search parties." The Consul said.

"What did you say?" Jace asked.

"We won't be sending out search parties to find Clarissa. It appears as though she ran off with her brother and has no intention of being found." The Consul said.

"So you're giving up on her?" Jace asked angrily.

"No. We still have Shadowhunters and the Downworlders on the lookout but we won't be sending out search-"

"You're giving up on her. She was kidnapped and you're giving up because you haven't found her!" Jace yelled.

"Mr Herondale. If I hear another word from you, I will have you removed from this meeting." The Consul warned.

"Do what you want. If you won't look for Clary, then I will." Jace said. He got up and walked out of the library.

"So the Consul isn't happy." Alec said sitting in the kitchen with Jace.

"Well that's unfortunate isn't it? Imagine being unhappy." Jace said.

"I know you miss her. But we're not going to stop looking. We'll find her Jace. I promise." Alec said.

"Don't make promises you can't keep. If Sebastian has her, he's probably killed her by now." Jace said.

"Don't say things like that. We'll get her back." Alec said. Jace sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

"I'm gonna go to the library. Clear my head." Jace said. Alec nodded and watched as he left the room.

Jace walked up to the second level of the library and sighed. He ran a hand through his hair and a laugh echoed up from the lower level of the Institute library. Jace knew that laugh anywhere.

Clary...

He ducked behind a shelf and waited.

"So why exactly are we here?" He heard Clary ask.

"I told you baby sister, I need to get something." Another colder, familiar voice  said. Sebastian.

"Can I grab one thing?" Clary asked.

"What is it?" Sebastian asked.

"Clothes mostly. Maybe a weapon or two." Clary said simply.

"Why? You can buy anything you want." Sebastian said.

"There's a sense of familiarity with the clothes I already own. Continuing to buy new ones is a waste of money." Clary argued.

"No. It's too risky." Sebastian said.
