Manila, Philippines— Jonas Ongpauco, The son of the Andres Ongpauco of Ongpauco Group of Companies, took his own life following the acquital of Jason Charles Buenavista from the charges of rape. Jonas' parents says police investigators mishandled his rape claims. They also believed his alleged rapist escaped prosecution because of his prominent and wealthy family.

According to his friends, Ongpauco was an introvert guy during his first two years in the campus. He took up BS Business Management, and attended the same school as Buenavista— who was then on his last year taking up the same course.
That all changed in January 1994 after meeting Buenavista.
February 1994
The world of business were shaken when a member of a well-known business clan got involved in the rape charge. Mr. Charles Buenavista, Father of Jason Charles Buenavista, denied all charges alleging the involvement of his son in the rape claim by Jonas Ongpauco.
According to unverified reports, both Jason Buenavista and Jonas Ongpauco attended the same college party. Pictures leading up to 12:35 am can prove that there was an interaction between the two. Then came afternoon on the next day when an official case of two counts rape was filled against Buenavista.
February 1995
After more than a year of investigation and hearing, the court finally decided to acquit Buenavista from all charges of rape. It was said that the prosecution could not present clear evidence that would prove the guilt of the defense. Because of this, Jason Charles Buenavista walked free last February 18, 1995.
