I carefully walked around the chalk paintings on the sidewalk, kind of like the ones in Mary Poppins, and looked back at Madi. I then avoided getting near the spray painter so I wouldn't get any access paint on my white skinny jeans. I looked at my phone as I waited for her to catch up. A text from Michael showed up and I smiled.
I'm gonna fly out to see you in two days.
No.
Why not?
Because it's a bad idea.
We can talk about why when I see you.
Michael, no.
Fine, then I'm flying you out to see me.
I'm not flying to Australia again.
Then I'm coming to see you.
No. He was persistent, I'll give him that.
It's too late; I've already bought the ticket.
I rolled my eyes, but ended up laughing. No, I tried one last time.
Don't care what you say, still happening. Gotta go babe.
"Oo, babe." Madi smirked.
"Shut up," I blushed.
"Not a chance. Especially since I'm the one that basically brought you two together."
"I didn't even want that," I chimed.
"Don't care," she chimed back.
I laughed, and jumped out of the way as she grabbed at my shirt.
"I'm stealing that shirt."
"Over my dead body!" I laughed again.
"But why not?"
"Because this is my favorite striped shirt I have."
"It's my favorite striped shirt that you have, too."
I gave her a weird look and she started laughing. This is my favorite shirt though. The oranges and gray and brown were perfect together. And white goes with everything so no problem there.
"Why was Michael calling you babe?"
I groaned, this not being the direction I wanted the conversation to go in. "That's just what he calls me.."
"Because he loves you."
"He doesn't love me."
"Rachel, we've been over this a million times. It was love at first sight and you need to deal with the very definition of cliché that is your life."
I rolled my eyes.
"Anyway, what did he want?"
"I feel like you already know what he wanted." I said, smirking at her.
"Okay, so Ashton told me that Michael wants to fly out here to see you and he wanted me to tell you that you should just give him permission, because he's going to anyway."
I groaned.
"Why are you so against it?"
"Because what if he gets here and it's not what we expected?"
"Well I guess there's only one way to find out."
I looked at her and she nodded ahead. I followed her eyes and my jaw dropped. Then I turned back to Madi and started softly hitting her. "I. Hate. You. All."
