We had a quarterly town hall meeting yesterday. In society, town halls are a chance for the community to voice opinions. Corporations bastardise it into a soap box for senior management to lecture the workforce on their latest gripe.
This time it was the tight economic environment and how we need to work much harder. One spittle-prone senior exec went on an indignant rant about showing urgency, examples of complacency and threats veiled under the guise of serving customers better.
Just as the front row started drowning he finally wrapped up with a dramatic 'Go hard or go home!' Bet he thought he was channeling some management guru or world leader. I googled it later and it's the Furious 7 theme song.
As we file out my entire team is absolutely dejected. They worked their asses off and this is their thanks. No point moping around the office all day so I tell them to get out of here. Go call a client, go home, whatever.
Later that day the executive passed our cubicles and asked 'Where is everyone? I knew a smart-ass comment about slacking was coming so I got in first and said 'They went home like you told them'.
He was not impressed. It made my day.
