It started with a tease, a little indirect flirting, to the situation they now call, a flirtatious friendship. Or in other words, they were on the brink of becoming an item.

No one would've ever guessed that two completely opposites, would ever collide, not in friendship, and certainly not in relationships. However, the Captain and the Widow were an exception. And somehow, aside from all their differences, they managed to find the similarities within one another.

But, amidst all the flirting and the cute secret dates at midnight, the two Avengers had to keep their little thing discreet. Because if anyone knew, they would never stop talking about it. So they had to be cautious. Especially among the Avengers, Tony and Clint, who seemed to be particularly suspicious about the two's recent behaviors.

"Why did we call upon this meeting again?" Sam Wilson asked, his chin on top of the palm of his hand. He looked annoyed, presumably because Tony, with the help of Clint, had summond the Avengers, excluding Steve and Natasha, for a meeting. At three a.m. in the morning.

While the half of them were busy yawning and drifting off to sleep, Tony paced back and forth, as if he was plotting something.

"And why aren't Cap and Nat here?" Wanda scanned her eyes across the room, wondering why their unofficial team leaders weren't present at this unexpected team meeting.

Clint stood up from his seat and clearing his throat, he began to explain the purpose of this little gathering, "Because Tony and I had a bet," He started off and in the background, about a majority of the team groaned. "And I betted that Cap and Nat are secretly together, right? Unfortunately, Iron Man here doesn't believe me,"

Rolling his eyes, Bucky spoke up, "And you want us to keep a close eye on the two? So we can prove that they're together or not?"

Tony snapped his fingers, "Presto, metal-arm,"

The lot sitting in front didn't look very pleased. But, knowing Tony and Clint, they would never stop nagging each other about this stupid, immature bet they planned during one drunken round of truth or dare.

Contradicting the whole situation, Bruce interjected, out of topic, "They have been sneaking around lately. And, the whole, 'pick a partner to practice combat fighting week' scheme they made up. They're subtly hinting that they're an item,"

Tony rolled his eyes, "Or, it could just be a plain ol' team exercise to get everyone to socialize and familiarise each other!"

"I call bullshit!" Clint retorted. "They chose each other the moment they announced it!"

The meeting room was filled with loud clamors. In the middle of the night, it was evident that anyone could hear them arguing with one another.

And who just happen to walk right past? The Black Widow herself.

She didn't hesitate to let herself inside, so she did. And the loud chatters coming from the meeting room came to a halt at once.

"Natasha!" Clint exclaimed.

The red-head raised an eyebrow, "I thought you don't sleep here, you sleep at the farm?"

Scratching the back of his nervously, Clint made up some bullshit excuse to hide the obvious. "Nothing just, uh, Laura, uh, kicked me out,"

She narrowed her eyes, as if she was lie detector scanning the ever so famous Hawkeye.

"Well, okay." She turned around and excused herself back to her bedroom.

Tony sighed, plopping onto the nearest wheelie chair, "That was a close one,"

"You think?" Clint rhetorically interjected with a sarcastic tone mixed in.

"What do you mean Tony doesn't believe we're dating?"

It was the early morning and both Steve and Natasha were the only ones out of the whole team awake. And they were already preparing for a sparring match.

"I'm telling you, Steve, they had some sort of secret meeting about us." The red-head assassin explained.

Steve smirked, chuckling as he wrapped bandages around his hands.

"Well, we just have to play them back," Steve suggested.

"And you think that would work?" Natasha asked.

Nodding with a mischievous smile across his face, Steve reassured Natasha that fooling with the others would be a fun idea.

And so the Captain and Widow managed to out-smart the genius billionaire. Even after denying that they shared some sort of romantic connection, Tony knew inside that they were truly an item.

"Ugh, now Barton won the bet. Again," Tony whined as he slapped a twenty-dollar note onto the famous Hawkeye's hand.

Natasha narrowed her eyes at the Iron Man before bursting into laughter, "Don't ever try to contradict us, Stark,"
