"Why can't I go trick or treating?"

In which Sarah Rogers, aged ten, is still begging to go out with her friends to wander around New York begging for candy.

"Uncle Tony is throwing a party for us, with plenty of candy! Why don't you stay here with James and Teresa and everyone else!"

Sarah rolled her eyes at her mother and crossed her arms, pouting. "Mom, I go to Uncle Tony's Halloween bash every single year! Isn't it about time I go out and beg for candy with my friends?"

Natasha Romanoff sighed heavily. "Sarah-"

"I know what you're going to say. I may be ten but, I'm not dumb. I know I'm the daughter of two Avengers but, it's not like the ghost of your deceased nemesis's will rise from the dead and lock me up in some grody cell!"

"But that's exactly why I don't want you to go out! Halloween means there are monster lurking everywhere and they can personally grab your-"

Sarah crossed her arms and looked directly at her mother, as if she told the same old lie all over again.

"As if it weren't the first billion times you've told me that, at least give me a valid reason why I can't go?" Sarah followed her red-headed mother as she paced around placing the candy corn in a small bowl.

"Candy corn?" She offered and Sarah pushed the bowl away.

"Mom. Teresa can go trick or treating. You let James go trick or treating. Isn't it time, I could go?"

She settled down the bowl of candy corn on the kitchen island and crossed her arms, sighing.

"Fine. But, curfew is at eight thirty. Sharp. Is that understood, Sarah Margaret Rogers?"

Sarah beamed with happiness. "Yes! Yes! You have my word! Oh my God, I have to tell Teresa I can make it! Teresa!"

Sarah Rogers ran to her best friends bedroom, which was upstairs next to hers.

Natasha smiled to herself but, couldn't help but feel the guilt building up inside of her.

"Honey, do you like my costume?" Steve hollered from the bathroom. As soon as he came out, he was wearing the exact suit as Jack Skellington from the Nightmare Before Christmas.

Natasha, matching, was covered in blue face paint all over her arms, legs, neck and face. Her hair was in loose curls, with of course, hair extensions as she had decided to cut her hair a little bit over the summer. She was the Sally to her husband's Jack Skellington.

"Wow! We're gonna be rockin' tonight!" Natasha was in joy but, was quickly interrupted by their ten year old daughter who was dressed in a zombified punk rock outfit.

"Mom, please do not use that phrase." Her arms were crossed but behind all that, she was leaping with joy.

"Oh come on, sweetheart, Mom just likes to fit in with you lot."

Sarah rolled her eyes as her older brother, James walked in with an Edward Scissorhands costume.

"Hey Mom, Dad, Sarah." He said smiling.

"Let me guess, Taylor Stark is having her annual Halloween bash herself by the lake?" Natasha had her hands on her hips, while James was smiling nervously.

"It's just a couple blocks from the tower, Mom. I mean, Uncle Tony's totally cool with it,"

"You can go, son," Steve was smiling, while finishing off the stitches on his mouth with black face paint.

Natasha turned to her husband, with a cross looking face and before she could say anything else, James flew off.

"Thanks Mom! Love you a million! You too Dad! Bye Sarah!"

Sarah giggled.

"Men, I don't understand them," Natasha rolled her eyes too but, fixed her gaze upon Sarah.

"So when are you going trick or treating?" She asked Sarah

"Teresa's still getting into her sorceress costume and our friends will meet us downstairs in the lobby." Sarah said smiling, while clutching onto her candy bag.

Natasha smiled too.

"I can't believe my baby is going trick or treating for the first time." She said with soft eyes.

Steve, finished with his Jack Skellington make up, smiled at his two girls.

"We are going to check your candy later, in case some lunatic is trying to poison you." He said sternly.

"Dad," Sarah chuckled.

"Alright, we won't, we won't. We trust our civilians."

Suddenly, Teresa called from across the room. "Sarah! Ready to leave?"

"Coming!" She hollered back.

Natasha, Steve and Sarah all exchanged goodbyes.

"Stay safe out there, sweetie!"

"Love you too Mom!"

And off she went to the streets of Manhattan with her friends on the night of All Hallows' Eve.
