Samantha's POV (Two Days Before the Taping of the Music Video)
"What do you want to do today?" I ask Aaliyah after her parents have left. We have got in a rhythm of the days already and we're less than two weeks in, which is definitely a record.
"Can we just... not do anything today?" She asks, falling onto the couch. I look at the couch, and realize just how comfortable it looks and how tired I really am.
"Actually, I would love that," I sigh, falling onto the couch next to her. Then I remembered something quite important. "Did you make sure it was alright that I came to the video taping?"
"I said it was okay," she brushes it off.
"I know you did, but I mean, like am I allowed to? Considering I'm not in the video, I'm just there?"
"Oh, yeah, they totally realized that when they said you can come, so you're good," she turns the t.v on. I nod my head and breathe out. I guess I'm worried about Thursday. Then I remembered something even cooler.
"Did you talk to the producers or whoever about your routine?" I turn to her, but instead of doing the same, she just turns the volume up on the t.v. Huh. "Aaliyah? Are you okay? What's the matter?" She never ignores me.
"I just want to watch some t.v," she brushes me off.
"Aaliyah... What happened?" I ask again.
"Fine," she breathes out, a little annoyed. "I asked my parents for the number or whatever and they said I shouldn't because I'm only 13, so the people wouldn't even consider it, so I should just drop it," she huffs out, then turns back to the t.v. Susan and Tom said that? I thought they would be totally for it.
Well, if they weren't, I'm sure there's someone who would be, if they had the chance.
"Why don't you send a video of the routine to your brother? Doesn't he have the final say in what goes in his video? And even if he thinks he's biased about how good it is, he can at least show it to someone and see what happens then." When she doesn't respond, I keep talking. "Aaliyah, you're a fantastic dancer, beautifully skilled, and you should have at least the chance to show it off." She sits there for a couple seconds, thinking. She looks at me, with such a sad face, it almost breaks me apart right there.
"Do you actually think I'm good?" She asks, looking directly at my face. I grab her hands, holding them both in my hands and look her straight in the eyes.
"You are amazingly skilled, don't doubt yourself, ever." And with that, I can see the Aaliyah I've gotten to know. Her eyes brighten and she can't help but smile.
"I don't have a video of it, though," she shrugs.
"I guess we're recording a video today," I tell her, getting up. She looks up at me with a "really?" look and I just smile.
"I guess we're filming a video today," she says, getting up, smiling big.

(Later that Night)
*ding ding* I look over at my phone. A text from Aaliyah. I wonder why she would text me at 10:30. She should be sleeping, I should be sleeping.
"HE LOVED IT! He's putting it in!"
I simply laugh. I knew he would put it in. Shawn is too smart of a guy to pass up on a true talent, especially if it's his sister's.
"Looks like you're going to have to teach some dancers a new routine 😉" I text back.
I get a reply quicker than I thought I would.
"Thank you so much for encouraging me to do this! It means so much to me!"
Before I can reply, I get another text.
"I'm super glad that I got you as my 'babysitter' this summer"
"I'm super glad that I got you as my 'baby'"
We text for a couple more minutes, then I tell her to get sleep and she tells me the same, and we go to bed.
I can't help but smile as I drift off to sleep. I helped someone with their dream today.
••••••••••
"Aaliyah, you've literally drilled this routine, so many times, I think I could do it, and I'm not really a dancer," I tell her after watching her practice her routine for the three-hundredth time that Wednesday afternoon.
"I know, it's just I want to be prepared. I don't want any of the older people to have any opportunity to tell me I shouldn't be there cause I'm too young," she tells me, getting a drink of water.
"I get that. You don't want your 'inexperience' to be a problem for the 'experts,' right?"
"Exactly!" she exclaims as she sits down next to me. "Luckily, I won't have to teach the dancers the full routine from raw. They got a copy of the video sent to them, so they should have most of it down tomorrow, but I have to be prepared and ready for any questions they could have," she explains.
"Okay, about tomorrow. What's going on? Like, do I just come here like any other day and I drive you to it or do I meet you there or what's going on? I don't really know anything about it," I ask. She almost spits out her water.
"I guess I haven't actually told you about anything," she laughs.
"Yeah, you haven't," I say, pushing her arm a little to get her to stop laughing at me.
"Okay okay!" She puts her hands up in surrender as she gets a last chuckle out.
"You come here, as usual, and then we have to use our car here, because it's an hour drive to the shooting place and my parents aren't allowing you to use your gas for me, so we have to use that car. And you know that we're staying at the hotel over there, where they're having everyone in the video stay, so we'll be out there until around Sunday afternoon, but then you'll have Monday off. If they still don't have all the footage they need, we might go back Tuesday or Wednesday next week. In other words, we'll be fed all weekend and get to stay in a fancy hotel and get to spend like four full days together. But you're pretty much getting paid as much as you would in two and a half weeks in four days, so that's cool," she finishes explaining and I can't help but feel the strong urge for my mouth to drop open.
"That's crazy," is all I can get out.
"I hope you're not bummed about spending that much time with me," she looks down at her water.
"Oh my gosh, no!" I snap out of my trance and turn back to her. "That will be so much fun! I'm excited! I've never been up to where we're going before, so that will be cool. Plus, you're super cool anyway," I tell her, genuinely excited for the weekend, as long as it may be.
"Plus, you'll see Shawn again after all these years," she mumbles to herself as she turns back to her water, but she knows I can hear her. I sigh. I can't help but admit that I'm nervous to see him. It's not like he's not a normal guy. Well, a normal guy who has millions of people who know him and listen to him in their cars.
But, no matter how nervous I am about seeing him after all these years after he got famous, I can't help but get excited for being able to see my old friend, Shawny, which was his nickname for the time we were close. I look over at Aaliyah and see that she's staring at me.
"You're thinking about him, aren't you?" She asks, smirking.
"I was not!" She laughs in return. "You should just keep drinking your water and hope you make it to your 14th birthday, miss," I sarcastically yell at her as I get up to get myself a snack.
••••••••••
"You ready?" I ask Aaliyah as I park in the hotel we're staying at for the weekend.
"I think I could ask you that same question," she winks at me as she gets out of the car.
"Aaliyah!" I scoff as I open my door, only to be met with a man. "Oh, hello!" I say, getting out of the car.
"I'm guessing you're the nanny?" He asks.
"Yes, sir," I respond. He nods to me, then nods to another guy behind me. The second one comes up to me.
"Can I take your bags?" He asks, looking at the backseat.
"Umm, Yeah, sure," I answer, overwhelmed by the attention, even though I'm sure they're just doing they're jobs. The second man grabs both of our bags from the backseat and Aaliyah comes up next to me as we follow the first man up to our room, 206.
"Where's Shawn?" Aaliyah asks as he hands us our room keys.
"That's classified, ma'am." Aaliyah looks annoyed. He looks around, then turns back to her. "But if a certain favorite little sister was asking, I might have to say next door in room 208," he whispers, winks, then walks away, leaving us alone. Aaliyah looks up at me with the cutest smile and then slides in our key and opens our door. When the door opens, I feel like I can't breathe. It's the best hotel room I've ever been in, let alone slept in.
"Holy..." I whisper out.
"Yeah, my brother always tries to give me the best one," she says, starting to search for something like she left something here. I wait a little bit, and realize she actually is looking for something.
"What are you looking for?" I ask, watching her shuffle through drawers.
"Shawn always leaves me a note when I come to see him, or when he visits home," she says, still going through different things. She passes me into the closet, and my mouth actually drops when she opens the door and it's an actual walk-in closet, bigger than the one in my room.
"Aha!" She yells as she plucks a piece of paper off of a clothing bag. Her eyes skim across the words, eating them up and then unzips the clothing bag to reveal a gorgeous dress... which she moves and another is shown.
"Those are amazing!" I can't help but admire them.
"I'm glad you think so, because one is for you," she tells me, then starts walking away.
"Excuse me? What?!" I turn around and start to follow her.
"Aaliyah,
I'm super excited to see you in person busting those amazing dance moves you showed me earlier this week. I've missed you and I wanted to spend some time with you, so I was hoping I could take you on a date, just you and me. So, tonight, after the first round of taping, you put on the first dress, and I'll pick you up at 8:30. The second one is for your 'babysitter.' I'm sorry I wasn't able to be there for you this summer, to be your 'babysitter,' even though you don't need one, but I'm sure whoever mom and dad picked is the best, for the best. I didn't want her to feel left out, so I got her the blue and white one, cause you told me that's her favorite color. I still can't believe you wouldn't even tell me her name. You stink for that, but the dress is for whatever she wants, although we will have a wrap party on some night, depending on the progress, that she can wear it for. I'll see you soon. Love you
-Shawn"
"That is super cute and adorable and wow. An awesome brother, but you didn't ever tell me about the 'wrap party.' Why?" I ask after she finishes reading the note.
"Cause he asked your size, so I knew what he was doing, so you had no need to worry about it," she simply shrugs it off and then jumps into the air to land on her bed.
"It doesn't matter anyway, because we have to get to the shooting place in twenty minutes, so we better get going," she sighs, leaning into the pillows.
"You literally just jumped onto the bed," I inform her like she doesn't know.
"I know, the place is literally right next to this building," she informs me back. I huff and turn around to go change out of my traveling clothes into something nicer.
A few minutes later, I come out of the bathroom and see Aaliyah staring at the letter from her brother. She really misses him and I can feel how much this whole weekend really means to her. I may not know much about dancing, but I do know about losing people.
"You miss him, don't you?" I ask quietly, trying not to scare her.
"So much," she replies, not stopping to look at the note.
"I know how that feels, but the best part is that he's still here, and he's waiting right over in the other building, so..." she looks up at me with a smile and hops out of the bed.
"Let's go!" she tells me, grabbing the keys and walking out the door.
"Wait for me," I laugh as I close the door behind me.
__________
Okay, I PROMISE that Shawn will be in the next chapter. I hope you're enjoying the cute friendship with Aaliyah and Samantha, though. Anyway, come back for more and I hope you're enjoying the story, even without Shawn yet.
Also, I just felt that Shawn would be a really cute older brother, so I had to put something in here about it.
