Samantha's POV
"He's not in here, Mike."
"What do you mean he's not in there?"
"He's not in here. He's gone."
"Well, where'd he go, Jason?"
"How am I supposed to know Mike?"
Shut uppppppp. I can hear you.
"Well where could he be?"
"I don't know..."
"Wait! Isn't his sister next door?"
"Maybe he fell asleep hanging out with her last night?"
"Jason, we watched him go in his room and lock it. That's our job."
"Okay... well, it's still worth a try. It's not like he'll just run away."
"Fine."
OH MY GOD. They're coming over here. I open my eyes and see Shawn sleeping, totally conked, but in the same bed as a teenage girl.
Me.
Crap. Crap. Crap. I knew this wasn't smart. If they catch him, we're both done for.
I am suddenly very awake, with a different kind of adrenaline running through my veins that's never been there before. I hear Mike and Jason leave Shawn's room and I can hear the door close. Crap crap crap. I wake up Aaliyah, shaking her, kind of panicking.
"What?" She mumbles, still asleep.
"When they knock on the door, you have to go and answer the door. I'm going back in your bed," I try to explain to her as I get up.
"Wait... what's going on?" She mumbles, but then turns her head to stretch and sees Shawn and her eyes grow wide like mine did. "Okay, I get it," she tells me, shooing me off the bed. I run quickly to the other bed and jump into it. I start getting under the covers when a knock is heard on the door. Crap crap crap. Faster faster. I shove myself under the blankets.
"Excuse us?" Mike's voice asks behind the door. They knock again.
"Mumble 'you're coming,'" I whisper to Aaliyah. She nods and mumbles, like she's just waking up, like she did less than a minute ago to me, "c-comin."
She shuffles to the door and I sprawl out on the bed like I'm totally conked, which I would be if they weren't at the door and totally freaking me out.
"Yes?" Aaliyah asks, pretty sleepily.
"Is Shawn in here?" Mike asks.
"Uh, Yeah. He came over in the middle of the night cause I had... a pretty bad dream," she tells them. By the way she says it, I know she's still kind of freaked out about the dream, but it works.
"Oh, is that so?" Jason asks, like he won. Of course he would make it a competition.
"Yeah," Aaliyah mumbles, walking back into the room. I hear large footsteps behind her and know that Mike and Jason followed her in.
"Shawn? Shawn?" Jason gently says his name to wake him up. Nothing.
"I got it," I hear Aaliyah say. I can tell she's smiling, but why?
"Wake up wake up!" She yells, jumping across both of our beds suddenly with a burst of energy.
"I'm up, I'm up!" I raise my hands in surrender and rub my eyes like I'm waking up for the first time. I close one eye, looking up at Mike and Jason, pretending like it's the first time I had to deal with the bright light in the morning. I look at Mike and Jason and can see they're convinced I've been here all night. I feel a tense pressure leave my chest. We're good. We made it. I look over as Shawn starts to wake up.
Crap.
He rubs his eyes, waking himself up, and the first thing he sees is Mike and Jason. His eyes go wide and he looks over at where I was. Yep. Not there.
"Oh, when did you get here?" I ask like I didn't know he came in last night. He turns back towards my voice and I can tell he relaxes. I hope Mike and Jason didn't notice anything.
He looks at me for a second like he can't believe I fixed what would've happened and then he smirks a little.
"Oh. Yeah. Aaliyah had a bad dream and called me last night," he casually explains to me like it was the first time I heard it.
"Oh. Well, next time, try to get up on time so I don't have to be woken up by Mike and Jason at..." I look over at the clock finally. "Holy s- 5:30?! Are you kidding me?" What? I didn't realize it was that early at all. I'm so screwed today. I was exhausted last night, then I stayed up for over an hour for Aaliyah, and now I'm up at 5:30. Great. Great. Great.
"I rise early. Lots to do," Shawn smiles as he gets up from the bed. Mike and Jason start to walk back out. Shawn turns around and gives Aaliyah a kiss on the forehead, then starts to walk back to the door. I groan as I flop back on the bed.
"Oh!" Shawn suddenly says, so I look up at him. He stops walking and turns back to look at me. "You're a freakin' genius, by the way. I'll see you later," and then walks out the door. I groan again and land softly on the bed.
"You're going back to bed, aren't you?" Aaliyah asks on the other side of the room.
"You bet, Aaliyah. You bet," I answer as I pull the covers back over my head.
"Good. I really didn't want to get up," she says, switching the lights back off and getting in the other bed.
When I hear her deep breaths not long after, I realize I've been thinking about Shawn for like, 15 minutes.
He has a real adorably hot wake up look to him. His messy hair, deeper voice, red cheeks, and not to mention the pronounced muscles.
'Stop. Stop. Stop. He's your friend,' I yell at myself in my head. 'Also, He's Shawn frickin' Mendes, Samantha,' my thoughts remind me.
"Great, even my thoughts are telling me what to do now," I mumble to myself as I turn over, getting more comfortable.
••••••••••
"Okay! Last scene today, my lovelies," Sandra announces after everyone comes out of their dressing rooms, ready for the day. I kept asking Allie and Annie what we were filming today, but they wouldn't tell me a thing. Not a peep.
"Shawn, you're driving today. Samantha, I hope you trust him. And then we have our finale for the afternoon, which shouldn't take long after. Tonight is the wrap party, so that should be all fun and dandy. BUT, remember we'll be going through lots of footage this next week and if we decide we need anything, you'll be asked to come back, if you're needed. Okay, let's get this going!" Sandra announces, then starts to walk away.
"You ready?" Shawn asks me, coming up behind me from nowhere, like he does everyday.
"You better be able to drive well," I tell him, grabbing his hand and walking towards where Sandra went.
"I normally don't, but with you, I'll make an exception," he tells me, laughing.
"Stop laughing! This is serious! My mom hates it when teenagers-"
"Drive you around because she thinks they're super irresponsible and would rather almost anyone else drive you places," Shawn finishes my sentence for me. I'm kind of shocked.
"You remember that?" I ask, stunned.
"Of course, because my mom always agreed with yours, 100%. That's why she wouldn't let me have older friends that could drive because she didn't trust them," he explains, now leading me.
"I totally would've thought you forgot that," I kind of mumble to myself as we walk. We stop and I look up. It's like an old-fashioned truck, meshed with an old fashioned Jeep or something. It's like Shawn can feel me get nervous, so he steps in front of my line of vision of the car.
"I get how you're nervous, but I won't be driving it in the city. I'm driving it when we're out in the country, okay? No other cars around. I promise you'll be safe," he says it like I ever doubted him.
"I know you would never hurt me," I say without thinking. He kind of takes a step back, stunned slightly, then looks back at me and smiles.
"I'm glad you know that," he tells me as he smirks.
Holy s-.
He's really cute when he's daring or just straight up out there and-
'STOP thinking about him like that. He's just your friend, remember?' My mind interrupts my thoughts.
Shawn opens the backseat of the old car and helps me climb in, and then climbs in next to me. The backseat really doesn't even exist it's so small, but here we are. Mike and Jason climb in the front seats shortly after and proceed to push their chairs back even farther, making our tiny backseat even tinier.
The thing is, Shawn is NOT a short guy. He's freaking over 6 feet tall, which means I'm the one crammed up the most, cause Shawn over here is moving his legs into my area because he has long legs and can't keep to the area that was originally "assigned" to him.
"This is not okay," I say, very monotone.
"What?" Shawn asks me, turning to look at me... and then proceeds to start chuckling...
Followed shortly by Mike and Jason.
"Why are you laughing, you limp noodles?" I demand.
Shawn looks over at me, and then laughs harder.
"You're so cute and you look terribly shoved into that small spot," he tells me, not stopping looking at me and smiling.
"That's because I am, you tall Canadian!" I angry yell. But before they can say anything, I beat them to it. "Yes, I know. We're all Canadians. I've been in America too long," I shake my head, trying to hide the start of a smile.
"What are you hiding, Samantha?" Shawn starts to tease.
"Nothing, you twerp," I say, swatting his hand that tries to move my face so he can see it.
"Are you trying to hide your laugh?" He asks, laughing himself.
"No, I am not!" I counter, even though I am.
Suddenly, I see a Shawn looking up at me.
"I knew it!" He exclaims in victory.
"That's not fair! You peeked under my arms to see if I was trying to hide my laugh!" I try to counter back, but he just keeps laughing.
"It's alright, we all know now. So, you can laugh with us," Shawn tells me, looking at me to start laughing with him. I bite my lip to make myself not smile, but then Shawn smiles at me, and I almost lose it.
"Nope. I wasn't going to laugh, so you lose," I tell him, booping him on his nose.
"Nonono. I don't think so! You're totally going to admit you were going to laugh!" He tells me.
"And how are you going to do that?" I ask, fake sassily.
"By making you laugh," he tells me, smirking. I start to ask him how, but I barely get the first word out before he launches into tickling me.
"Not fair!" I shout as I start laughing like crazy.
"I am victorious!" Shawn yells, putting his arms up in the air as much as he can in the small car in victory.
Which gives me the perfect opportunity to get him back. I launch into tickling him, which he is surprised by, but also can't help but start laughing until he tackles me, in the small space of the car, and grabs both of my arms, holding them down.
"This is so not fair," I fake pout.
"Oh well," he tells me, shrugging, but never letting our eye contact fail.
We stare at each other for what feels like forever, my heart beat gradually intensifying, but it's not long after that we both burst out into laughter at what just happened. He rolls back over and I have to hold my stomach cause it hurts from laughing.
"I really miss moments like this," he whispers to me.
"I do too," I whisper back, letting my head rest on his shoulder.
••••••••••
The car stops five minutes later and Mike and Jason both get out. Shawn climbs back out of the car and then helps me get out as well.
"What are you two doing? You have to be in the car in order for Shawn to drive the car," Sandra tells us, starting to walk over.
"Just one sec," I say, stretching out my limbs that have been cramped up for too long. Sandra looks at me weird, then relaxes and lets me stretch out.
"Thank you," I tell her, climbing into the passengers seat, that actually has room now. Shawn chuckles lightly as he gets in after me, but in the drivers seat, also now with more room. Shawn closes the door and Sandra sticks her head in the window.
"Okay, so pretty much all we want is for you to just drive and hang out with each other. Like you're going on an adventure or something like that. We aren't doing any takes of Shawn singing the song for this scene, though, because we decided we didn't want that. Now, just go have fun and be back here in an hour with some awesome fun footage, okay?" She explains as people set up cameras everywhere on the car.
"Wait, so you aren't coming with us or anything?" I ask.
"Nope, but we will have a drone overhead following you guys and a car following behind you with a cameraman and Mike and Jason, just in case," she finishes talking and then looks over at the people putting on the very small cameras. "All good?" She asks them and when they nod, she turns back to us. "Go make some more magic happen like you've been doing all weekend."
And with that, she steps away from the car, and Shawn starts it up.
"Ready?" He turns to me, asking me like he did when I filled in for Claire, to see if I matched my words.
"Ready," I tell him back, smiling. "Let's gooooooo!" I yell as I put my hands up in the air.
