"Yes, yes Monday! Thank you!" Regina squealed delighted on the phone call accepting her first big job. She was 29 years old, and had been working tirelessly trying to make herself known to the writing world, sending out articles and published works to every publishing company there was.
Finally, she received a call from someone at the biggest magazine in town. "Oh Regina!" Zelena, her half sister, enters with a bottle of champagne, "I am so proud of my little sister," she opens the bubbly and toasts to her.
Regina grinned ear to ear, and couldn't believe that this was finally happening. "I know, I can't believe that I'm going to work there, I know the editor is very successful," Regina said. "What's his name again?" Zelena asked. "Killian Jones," Regina reminded.
"I mean how tough can he really be, you got the job, and you have a supervisor right?" Zelena asks. "Yes, and I have a team, Ruby Lucas is the one who called me, she's under the others, and will work with me," Regina said.
"She mentioned not to let the editor's looks get in the way, or fool his demeanor," Regina said. "What does that mean?" Zelena asked. "I don't know," Regina shrugged.
Regina was excited and dressed herself in a purple sweater and nice pants for her first day. She spoke to herself in the mirror to get herself a little confident for the day that would begin. Having nerves, naturally, on a first day, and of course people warning her about her tough editor and chief. How bad could he really be though?
Regina shuffled to the nearby coffee shop, having plenty of time, and got herself a latte, "Ah!" She ran into someone. "I'm so sorry," She apologized, getting some on the man's cuff of his sleeves. "That's fine," he said in an accent. She looked up and saw that he was scruffy, dark haired and bright blue eyes, with a jawline like a god.
Regina's POV-- Ohhh, he's..... pretty..... He just stared at me though, with a rather frowning look on his face. "Did I burn you?" I asked rapidly, "No no, just made me late," he scoffed at me, and shifted. "I'm sorry, I'm just on my way to my new job at the magazine "Appeal," I spat out, as if this guy cared.
"Is that so?" He rose an eyebrow looking her up and down, "Uhh yeah," she nodded quickly, unable to really speak more than that. "I see," he smirked, and headed out. "Well, try not to run into anyone there on your first day," he said with a sly grin.
Regina hustled herself to the office, she was greeted by Ruby, "Ok, let me show you everything," Ruby moved quickly and Regina kept up with her. "Coffee room and snacks obviously, make sure you write your name on anything you put in the fridge, we have a lot of moochers who will just eat anything, isn't that right Remy?" Ruby teased a small stocky fellow nibbling something.
"Down here are the meeting rooms, every Monday, we meet with Killian to go over the ideas and plans for the week, you cannot be late to that, or it will really piss him off, it's at 9:45 am sharp, he's really tight to his schedule," Ruby said quickly, as Regina tried to take some important notes.
"When you finish an article, you place it here on this desk, for the grammar and editing police to go over it, then they give it back to us, here's all of our boxes with names, yours is under Mills, and then from there you can bring it to the Monday meeting with Killian to be approved," Ruby explained.
Regina kept nodding at everything Ruby told her. "Lunch, you get half an hour, and that's also one of those things Killian keeps tabs on, no idea how he does it, but he knows out of all 50 employees who is taking lunch and when, he runs a tight ship, let's put it that way," Ruby said.
"This is the rest of our team, you'll be working with," Ruby introduced her to the group of workers already focusing on their final edits for the Monday meeting. "Obviously, since this is your first day, you don't have an article to give at meeting, but you have to be there and Killian will likely assign you something for next time," Ruby said.
"Is ... he as tough as they say?" Regina asks, "Yes, and he's as good looking as they say too," Ruby added. "Oh.." Regina nodded, of course she only had one man in her mind, the one she ran into this morning. She wondered if he worked nearby and she would get to see him often at the coffee shop.
Regina started, simply by placing a few cute things on her desk, she didn't have any assignment yet, Ruby said it would be the meeting that decided that. She headed to the break room, and got some coffee, of course spilling it when she heard a booming voice in the hallway. "TICK TOCK!" The voice yelled.
She now had coffee on her pants, and she looks at the clock, ten minutes to spare until the meeting. She rushed herself to the ladies room, and lightly wet her pants to rinse it a bit, then placed herself under the automatic drier to get it dry.
Of course she looks at her watch, and it's 9:47, and she remembered what Ruby said about being late to meetings with Killian. "Shit," she cursed out loud and rushed herself down the hall to the meeting room. She looked through the glass, and saw 12 people around the table and a man, a familiar man standing at the front of the room.
"Shit." she gaped and stared at him through the glass door, the very same man she ran into at the coffee shop, was freaking Killian Jones, her editor and now boss. She sighed, and suddenly, he saw her, and opened the door, knowing she was meant to be in there.
"Sorry... I'm late..." She sighed at him. He tilted his head up and looked at her, the same way he did in the coffee shop, "Come in, so I can begin please," he said, in a commanding tone. She went towards the empty chair next to Ruby, completely embarrassed.
"Sorry I didn't catch your name," he pointed at her, "Regina...." she let out quickly, getting her pen and paper out. He smirked, and placed his hands in his pockets, "Last name." he said. "Mills," She answered back.
"Well at least this time you didn't almost scald me with coffee, Mills," He said, tilting the corner of his mouth upward.
Regina's POV-- Holy shit. I'm in trouble.
