The android opened her eyes to be met with the face of her creator. She blinked slowly, scanning her surroundings. She looked down at her hands as tan skin covered the white plastic beneath. It was soft, warm.
"GS200, register name." Elijah Kamski watched as her indicator flickered to yellow. "Elka."
She smiled, unable to analyze the pride in his eyes.
"My name is Elka."
-
Connor leaned against the Lieutenants desk, waiting patiently. A silver quarter rolled delicately over his knuckles. A flash of brown caught his eye. Elka walked silently passed the desk, never sparing him a glance. Her LED was a quiet blue, her attention focused on seemingly nothing. Connor couldn't help noticing her odd behavior.
"Elka?"
The female android turned to face him, silent as if waiting for instructions. Only then did it occur to him that he had no idea of what to say. She always spoke first. Her LED indicated she was scanning him, but Elka did that the first time they had met. Why would she do it again?
"Are you alright?" He asked, suddenly.
"Of course, all corrupt and damaged bio components have been replaced. I apologize for any inconveniences I have caused."
When he did not ask anything else of her, the android turned to leave.
But he quickly moved forward, grasping her wrist. Elka met his eyes, patiently waiting.
"Do you know my name?"
"Your name is Connor. You are an RK800 model and prototype designed by Cyberlife."
Now Connor knew something was wrong. She had given him the automatic response to his question, not what a deviant would say. But his attention was drawn away when Lieutenant Anderson approached the android from behind.
"Elka? Where have you been?"
The android scanned the Lieutenant, quickly gaining his name and title. Connor held out a hand to stop Hank from approaching her. Elka tilted her head, smile dropping slightly.
"Something is wrong," Connor muttered. "She's showing no signs of deviancy."
Connors artificial skin dissolved to reveal the white plastic beneath. He probed Elka's memory, searching for anything to explain her lack of emotion. He stepped back quickly, startled.
"Connor? What's wrong with her?" Hank asked worriedly.
He was silent for a moment, LED yellow with an unpleasant feeling he couldn't describe.
"She doesn't remember us." Connor turned to Hank, his lips pulled into a frown. "Someone reset her."
-
Elka wasn't sure what caused the humans sudden stress, but whatever it was, he didn't seem to want to share it with her.
"Who named you?" Hank asked quietly.
"My creator, Elijah Kamski."
Hank's hands curled into fists, grimacing. She didn't expect this to anger him, had she done something wrong?
"This is why you don't get attached to androids." He growled.
-
"Everyone, this is Elka. She'll handle anything you babies are too soft to manage, got it? She'll be here for about a week at most, trial week or some shit. Just let her know if something gets out of hand or you screw something up. Try not to break her and don't get attached to the android."
-
Elka blinked, uncertain of what she had seen. But the man was already walking away, hunched over in anger. She reached for something to say, anything to console him.
"Wait," She called. "I do know you."
Hank turned around slowly, bracing himself for anything she had to say.
"You brought me here, right?"
Hank huffed, humorless.
"I brought you here, I named you, I made sure you weren't broken by the officers that wanted you gone." He ranted, unaware of her shocked expression. "Four years in, and you're still just a fucking machine!"
Elka reached for the LED at her temple. Her eyes were wide, remembering touching it in times of doubt, hurt and confusion. She looked at Connor, but it felt like she was only pulling threads. Connor stared straight back at her, with calm brown eyes. He watched her reach for his arm, gently touching his.
-
"Lieutenant Anderson rarely arrives at a regular time, but he should be here soon." She informed it, acting emotionless. "You can wait at his desk if you wish."
"Which desk would that be?"
-
Connor let her search through his memory, showing her his memories of the brunette android. She squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, before turning away from Connor.
"I'm not just a fucking machine!" She called after him.
Her fingers wrapped tightly around his forearm and he did the same. Hank was speechless, his eyes falling to the androids' connected arms. Her LED was flashing red, showing her anger. But once the words were out, Elka realized what she had done.
I am deviant.
