Connor was just standing there. Not moving an inch. His LED was flickering red and yellow. He was almost shaking, the gun in his hands slowly lowering.
"They're going to attack Jericho," He muttered.
Elka knew from the emotion in his eyes that he had changed, deviated. But his words forced back her smile. Elka raised her eyes to the roof, focusing on the whirring sound from outside.
"What?" Markus exclaimed.
"We have to get out of here!" Connor exclaimed.
Markus rushed out the door, leaving Connor to grab Elka's hand and follow. They ran out onto the main deck to see that true to his words, the FBI had arrived. They were going to kill everyone, and this time, with no pity or mercy.
-
"They're coming from all sides! Our people are trapped in the hold, they're gonna be slaughtered!" North said.
The group could hear gunshots in the distance. Elka chose her silence, grasping tightly to Connor as she processed their situation.
Markus then sent a message to the androids in Jericho.
'There are exits on the second and third floor. Find them and jump in the river!'
"Where's Simon a-and Josh?" Markus asked, worried about his companions.
"I don't know, we got separated," North responded quickly.
"They're coming from the upper deck now too. We'll be caught in the crossfire!"
"We have to run, Markus! There's nothing we can do!"
Connor and Elka looked at each other. She could see one thing clear in his eyes, worry. It was the first time she had ever seen him express emotion like this.
"We need to blow up Jericho," Markus told them, "If the ship goes down, they'll evacuate and our people can escape-"
"You'll never make it," North argued, her eyes desperate. "The explosives are all the way down in the hold, there are soldiers everywhere!"
Connor broke eye contact first, turning back to the conversation. "She's right," He said. "They know who you are. They'll do anything to get you!"
"Go and help the others. I'll join you later."
North looked at Markus, full of worry, "Markus-"
"I won't be long."
Then Markus ran, and the three deviants headed in the opposite direction.
-
"Where is the second floor?" Elka yelled, sprinting as fast as she could.
"Follow me, we don't have much time!"
North looked pretty upset about Markus leaving. Elka could tell they were close.
"HEY! PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR AND GO JOIN THE OTHERS!" A soldier shouted as he turned the corner to catch them running. Connor walked right up to him, calm. "WHAT ARE YOU-" Connor took the gun out of the soldier's hand and hit him with his elbow. "ARGH-" Then, Connor kicked the soldier in the stomach followed by shooting the soldier in the head.
"Let's go!" He yelled.
-
They had been running for a while. They ran into a few soldiers but managed to neutralize them. The androids had found Simon and Josh, now headed for the second floor.
Then North turned around, "Markus!" The others did the same and saw Markus running towards them.
"The bomb's gonna explode any second. We gotta get out of here!" He said.
They didn't dare question him, following his lead as they ran for an exit. Jumping over boxes and holes in the floor.
"Gurgh-" North grunted. She had been shot.
Markus turned around and Elka followed his gaze. Her eyes widened in fear, even for an android she didn't know.
"It's too late Markus! There's nothing we can do for her, we've gotta run!" Simon said.
"North-" Elka whispered.
Markus ignored Simon and took a piece of rusty metal to block the gunshots.
"FIRE AT WILL!" A soldier cried.
Markus threw the metal piece to North, so she could block the shots. She slowly walked towards them, using the metal in her hands like a shield while Markus kicked one of the two soldiers. He then punched the other one in the face, the first one walked towards him but was quickly shot by Markus, the other one receiving the same fate.
Markus took North by his arm, so they could get away safely, then more soldiers were on the way.
"Run!" Markus said. Connor stepped in and began shooting at the soldiers and took the metal piece. He walked up to the nearest soldier until he punched the soldier in the stomach followed by him shooting the soldier. Then he shot the two next soldiers and kicked the last one in the stomach. Then, he hit the soldier with his elbow, pushed the soldier and shot him.
Elka was watching on the sidelines, wondering if it was too late to ask for a gun.
"Run, quick! Come on!" Markus yelled and they all ran to a hole in the wall that led to the water.
With their hands still intertwined, Connor and Elka jumped. The water was freezing and turned everything dark. Elka was scared. But she wasn't scared to drown.
Elka was scared for the android she had lost her grip on.
