Connor admitted that he had considered the possibility of hallucinations.

But of course, she would be here.

-

Elka knew that her eyes had never deceived her.

But why would he be here?

-

"Connor?"

He stopped in his tracks, unwilling to face the owner of the voice.

"Connor, look at me."

Slowly he turned around, meeting her sad eyes. She always spoke first.

"Welcome to Jericho." She said, eyes distracted.

His eyes fell to her stomach, the memory of her scream returning. He gently touched the spot where she was shot, only to feel it repaired. She grasped his hand quickly, unaccustomed to the touch.

"You shouldn't be here."

"I had to come." He responded quickly.

"For me? Or for Cyberlife?"

Connor lifted his head to look her in the eye again. She didn't need an answer. Elka pulled him into an empty corridor by the sleeve of his jacket, glancing around warily. Connor looked at her curiously as she stepped closer. She grabbed him by the collar, connecting their lips. They were warm, just like a human's would be. Connor's hands found her hips, pulling her to him as if out of instinct. Her hands tangled in his hair, gentle but firm. Elka drew back, searching his eyes. She brushed her fingers over the LED indicator by his eyebrow.

"Tell me you feel nothing," She whispered. "Say it and I'll give up trying to convince you that you are alive."

He raised his hand to cover her own. Her eyes flicked between both of his, waiting for something, anything. His grip on her tightened, their foreheads touching. Their lips were inches apart and bodies closer.

"I'm- I'm a machine," He murmured. "Designed to accomplish a task."

From the first word that left his lips, Elka was heartbroken. Her eyes were glazed over with tears yet to fall. Connor sighed, wishing he hadn't seen, but unable to pull away from her shaking body.

"I have to accomplish my mission."

Elka lowered her head, holding back her sobs.

"Markus is all we have," She whispered. "They'll kill all of us."

Connor leaned down, gently kissing her lips. Elka raised herself onto her toes, desperate to keep the contact.

"I know. I'm sorry."

Elka stepped away from him until her back met the rusted metal wall. She blinked once and the tears slipped free. Connor's metaphorical heart lurched at the sight, moving forward to cup her cheek. Elka pushed him back and darted away, unsure how much more she could take tonight.

Connor shook his head violently, trying to clear his head. But one command stayed firmly in his mind.

Find Markus.

-

It took Elka a while to gather her thoughts, crying out of sight of the other androids. When she came to her senses, she decided to rejoin the others, but her attention was quickly stolen. Connor had made his way to the second level, towards where she knew Markus was.

She knew that Markus was the only thing keeping their rebellion together, everyone had chosen to follow him. Connor could undo their progress with a single bullet.

Elka stood to follow him, careful to keep her distance.

-

"I've been ordered to take you alive."

Markus turned slowly to face the gun aimed at his head.

"But won't hesitate to shoot if you give me no choice." Connor continued.

Markus chose to reason with the android, stepping closer.

"What are you doing?" He asked. "You are one of us. You can't betray your own people."

"You're coming with me!" Connor instructed.

"We are your people." Markus took another step. "We're fighting for your freedom too. You don't have to be their slave anymore."

Elka pushed past Connor, standing defiantly in front of Markus. Connors LED flickered as Elka stared him down.

"Please don't Connor," She said quickly. "Don't hurt him."

"Move, Elka."

"No."

Connor gritted his teeth, gun slightly shaking.

"You know I wouldn't hurt you," Connor muttered, eyes lowered.

"I know."

Elka smiled weakly, letting it falter as Markus stepped past her.

"Join us, Connor." He offered. "Join your people."
