Sometimes what you're most afraid of doing is the very thing that will make you the happiest.

Third person's POV

Amal scanned the classroom, relieved not to spot Zach anywhere. She quickly claimed a seat at the back, leaning against the wall to avoid any potential interaction.

She waited to see Mr. Hart enter and lock the classroom door, just like he always does before starting his lectures, he said he hated being interrupted. Usually Amal would feel a little bit bad for all of her classmates who end up missing the class due to coming late, but today not today, because she is actually really looking forward to it, if it means being able to avoid the boy from the day before.

What?, don't look at her like that!,

She still hasn't made a decision on whether or not to apologise. She prefers to think things through thoroughly before acting on them.

Barely a second after having that train of thought, the teacher walked into the classroom, making sure to closing and locking the door behind him. Amal let out a sigh in relief, leaning back in her chair. She unzipped her backpack to retrieve her book, but disaster struck—her pen clattered to the floor, prompting a frustrated groan.

As she reached for it, but so did another hand. She pulls her hands back, allowing the mystery hand to scoop it up. Because Why hurry if they are going to give her at the end of it all?, This is not a movie where you touch hands for no absolute reason.

"Hey, you dropped yo—Amal," a familiar voice chimed, and she mentally cringed.

Glancing up, she met Zach's incredulous stare. He was here, defying all her strategic seating plans. Yet, it wasn't Zach extending the pen to her; it was his Asian best friend, stationed with them in the back row. Amal sat next to Zach, with Sam positioned in front.

Internally cursing her luck, she reluctantly accepted the pen from Zach's friend. "Thanks..." she mumbled, avoiding Zach's eyes.

"Thanks..." She says to Zach's friend making Zach look at her with disbelief in his gaze, as mentally he questions himself" is she really trying to be social right now?...

What?, don't look at him! She has been nothing but rude to him ever since so he has the full right to be surprised.

"No problem. Any friend of Zach's is a friend of mine," Sam said with a grin, pretending to be oblivious to Zach rolling his eyes at him. Sam has always been like that, he loves to push boundaries, especially when it concerns Zach, it's obvious that he was hoping for more, to hear more from Amal, but Zach knows something that his best friend doesn't and that is that Amal's defenses were strong, and just like him, she likes to keep her personal life under the wraps.

"So um i was wondering, are you from Asia by any chance?" she asks before she could stop herself well his watch just crashed. was she actually acting social for once?, this should be on the news.

"Um, are you southeast Asian by any chance?" she blurted out, surprising even herself.

"Well, my dad's from the Philippines, but he's all about America, so I was born and brought up in my mothers land, here in America, but I guess you can still call me Asian, if you want '' Sam explained with enthusiasm. Zach furrowed his brow, clearly puzzled by the sudden turn in conversation, i mean, sure it's a nice save on Amal's side but Amal actually acting friendly for once after his return?, wow, this should be on the news...or maybe her doing this isn't even that surprising. Maybe this is just him struggling with not wanting to be or feel petty and failing to do so miserably.
