Anabel gazed at her father. "A battle, but Dad, I don't know Eevee that well yet." Anabel says,  looking down, dejected.

"This battle will be for experience then." Her father says, gently taking Anabel's elbow in his hand to help her up and to pull her outside. Eevee followed its trainer outside where they all saw an elderly man having three pokéball.

"Well, well, so this is the young girl you so proudly spoke about. Does she knows how to battle?" He asked.

"No, she doesn't, but she can handle Eevee, I know that!" Anabel's father swore up and down that he knows that Anabel can hold her own. Anabel released a small whimper and Eevee rubbed its head against it's trainer.

"You're a fool, putting faith in a young girl that never battled." The professor's words were scathing and that was when Anabel realized something.

"You're not the professor!" She shouted with fear. The "elderly" man smirked at her. He released a pokémon from the ball and it growled at Anabel.

"That's a Charmander." Anabel says, holding Eevee more closer to her body. Fear gripped her entire being. Anabel never faced off against someone so...evil. Anabel didn't want to battle, but the older man did and he was going to get a battle, whether she likes it or not.

"You know the pokémon, that's good, but can you fare against it?" He asked her. Anabel shivered. She has no experience with battling and she was suddenly thrusted into one.

"I..." Anabel couldn't speak. She gazed down at Eevee and she saw Eevee staring at her. It wanted to battle to protect her and Anabel saw that in the pokémon's eyes. "I...accept." She told the man. The man sneered at her.

"Charmander! Flamethrower!" He ordered Charmander. The fire type pokémon growled and it released the attack.

"E-Eevee, Protect, please!" Anabel begged. Eevee leaped out of her arms and it used Protect. A large blue shield covered both Eevee and Anabel.

"What a weak girl. The first thing you come up with is Protect? You don't deserve to become a trainer! You're just be in the way and a liability!" The man shouted at her.

Anabel, being the humble girl she was, believed the man. Only the strongest can survive. I'm weak. I'm probably just holding back Eevee. She thought.

Her mother glared at the man. "Who do you think you are?! Calling my daughter weak? She's strong and brave for accepting your battle proposal. That's strong right there!" She screamed at the man.

The man smirked at her. He didn't care the woman had to say; he just wanted to cause Anabel some pain. His plan was working.

Anabel was crying. Her eyes lost the happy shine and they were now dull colored. Her father looked down in guilt. What have I done? He thought to himself.

Anabel wasn't staring at anything, but her eyes was locked onto the man. He's right. I'm pathetic. I'm weak. I'm just a little girl who doesn't know a thing about this forsaken world! She thought, switching her gaze to Eevee, who was glaring at the man.

The man chuckled.
