(Rue)
We finally turn a corner, and he pushes us through a door.
All eyes are on us, as we walk down the steps, of a large control room, and into another door, into what looks like a small break room."WHAT DID I TELL YOU PEOPLE ABOUT OPENING THE-"
He stops in mid sentence when his eyes lock with mine.
He looks nothing like me.His shoulder length red hair, shines silkily over his black suit.
His eyes, a dark grey, almost black.
As well as a large, thin scar that runs across his cheek."You are excused," he says waving the man off.
He exits quietly, and my eyes wander back to his tux, which I notice has a splash of red on it.
Before I can make any assumptions of what might of happened, he speaks."Well."
He claps his hand together.
"We finally meet."I keep a cold emotionless face on as he studies me.
"Niece."
I cringe at his words, and he laughs, a cold hard laugh that suits his expression."I thought that would happen."
He pauses, and takes a step closer to me.
"You definitely look like your father," he says.I want to protest, but I keep my mouth shut, and stare at anything but him.
He frowns.
"I don't see any of your mom in you though. Pity, she is quite beautiful."
He laughs.
"But your beautiful with or without her features"
My jaw clenches. He takes a step back, and looks at Jack.
"Who is this?" He asks.Jack takes my hand, and I squeeze it tightly.
"Oh, I see, you must like my niece, now don't you?"
He slowly reaches out to touch Jacks head, and that's when I decide to speak up."Don't touch him," I spit out, already pissed.
He look at me and smiles."She does speak!"
He laughs again.
"I Won't hurt him, don't worry, that is if he doesn't try anything stupid."Anger returned to my features.
"Why do you want me here?"
He pauses, stunned by my confidence.
"Well to help you of course, to show you what you can rely do with that power of yours. Oh and don't try and deny it, I know it. Once I got an alert that you were missing, well, there was only one place you could have gone. Since you came from my side of the family, I knew you had it, you inherited my gift. I knew it right when I first laid eyes on your grey eyes as a child."My heart race begins to pick up.
"Your father and I were close, really close, until I had to go away for...specific purposes."
He smiles."Well...you know what happened after that."
"Now, it's going to be a long journey back, and I'll let him stay."
He points to Jack.
"His name is Jack," I say angrily.
"Yes, him."As he turns around, I grab my gun, and point it at his back.
But before I even pull the trigger, he turns around swiftly, and snatches the gun from my hands."I suggest you don't try that again," he says sounding to happy for someone who almost got shot.
"Of course I can't blame you though, it's my fault, you got your dark side from me."
Dark side?
I drop my arms down at my side, and shut my mouth.
Dark side
Dark side
Dark side
Dark side
I'm a killer! I killed like three people today!
What have I become?"Well, I'm going to step out, and some people are going to come and show you towards your room, where you will be locked up tight."
I glance a at Jack."If he gets sent somewhere other than me, I'll be dead before you know it, do you really want that to happen?"
He sighs.
"Fine. Both of you."
He leaves."Rue."
I ignore him.
"Rue?"
A tear falls down my cheek, and I look at him.
Immediately he goes silent.Only Jack has ever seen me cry, and that was only once.
"I'm sorry."
I say quietly.
"I told you that I'd get us out of here, and I failed, and now you might die, and I'll get turned into a monster.
More than I already am.""No," he says sternly.
"You couldn't have gotten us out any better than you tried right now, all the halls were being watched, and not not even your wind abilities could have have gotten us out of here, this is fate, and I know we'll get out some other way."
He pauses.
"And your no monster. You did what you did to try and get us out of here.
And if these people really did care for their lives, they wouldn't be here, so don't go on blaming yourself, okay?"I nod slowly, still a tad bit not convinced.
I plop down on a chair, shedding another tear.
"I'm going to die.""No, your not," Jack says.
"He's going to make me into one of them! A cold hard killer!
Death would be a better fate than this."
Jack looks at me, his eyes tearing up.
"You better not give up." He says.
"You need to push him to his limits, find his weak spot."
I nod, starting to pace the room."But what about you?" I ask.
"Well, I'll be fine, you heard him, I won't do anything smart."
I nod once more, continuing my pace."But how will we get out of there?" I ask.
"We'll find a way. Even in the most brilliant of minds there's always a flaw, one that cuts the strings of his plan altogether."
"So your saying that I have a flaw?"
He nods.
"Your just going to have to hold your strings in place, and stay grounded. Then we'll make it out alive."I nod, and repeat what Jack said, and a little of my own, in my head.
Stay grounded.
Don't cut the strings.
Be quiet and innocent.
Hold your strings together.
Don't get caught.
