(Scarlet James)

Caius Asher. The name that makes every girl in ShadowBrooke swoon. He's just that guy. He's hot as hell. Caius has perfect brown hair which he brushes back and his emerald green eyes mesmerize anyone that comes in contact with them. He was born to be Alpha, there's no doubt about it.

By the time I'm ready, he texts me saying he's outside. So I pop by the den, where Mom and Dad are hanging out and let them know I'm going out.

"Okay, honey, be safe," Mom smiles.

"Who are you going out with?" Dad asks, checking the time.

Before I can answer, Mom rolls her eyes, "Honey, it's summer, I'm sure she wants to hang out with her friends before her big day tomorrow."

"You're right, if you need anything, call us. And don't be out too late, you're going to want your rest," Dad points out, before tapping his cheek. I grin and walk over to kiss him on both sides of his cheeks and hugging Mom.

I close the door behind me and turn to find Caius's Black Dodge Charger parked right up front. He's leaned up against it, wearing black sweats and a green hoodie with the sleeves rolled up halfway. His dark eyes are watching me as I come up to him.

"Are you wearing anything under that coat?" he asks, quietly as he opens the passenger side door for me. I don't take my eyes off him as I undo the belt and take off my coat, revealing my red tank-top, which definitely enhances my assets, and the comfy shorts I picked to go with it, as I slip into his car.

He groans as he closes the door, "Why do you do this to me?"

Because I don't know what's going on in his mind but I want him, always have. And I know he wants me too. I just don't understand what's stopping him. So meanwhile, since I get the chance tonight, I'm going to tease the hell out of him.

He gets into the driver seat and chuckles, "I like your mom."

"I know. She's pretty cool," I smile, loving how she covered for me without really needing to. As Caius gets us on the road, I ask, "So where are we going?"

"Just going for a drive," he replies, one hand on the wheel, the other holding my hand, resting on top of my bare thigh, "you look fucking beautiful...God help me..."

I grin, using my free hand to flip my straight blond hair back, "Well, not even God can help you now, Caius Asher."

"You have no idea how right you are," he shakes his head, sighing heavily, "I'm kind of regretting telling you to wear something comfy now, but then you'd find anything and make it hot, so fuck it."

I settle into the seat farther, watching the streetlights pass by as we drive toward the edge of town, heading for the shoreline. I want to talk to him about tomorrow night, but I don't know. I just don't want to know, because Anna's right. If we were mates, he would've claimed me by now.

"Talk to me. You're painfully quiet tonight," he squeezes my hand, "what's going on in that pretty head of yours?"

I turn to look at his beautiful face; those strong features, the sharp jawline and perfect nose and high cheekbones. This feeling of peace and acceptance when I'm with him, the fact that I know it has to be him...

"You don't want to know what's going on in my head," I reply.

He frowns, "Why?"

"Because right now I have all these scenarios and ideas about why we never became anything more, but if we talk about it and you give me an answer I don't want to hear...I don't think I can deal with that...so I'm really just trying to get to tomorrow night. If you're my mate I'll know and then I can grill you and if you're not, then I guess none of this will matter," I tell him, honestly, letting out my feelings. It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt, right?
