(Caius Asher)
I haven't seen Scarlet for over a week and the fact that she hasn't been replying to any of my calls or texts, has me worried. I twirl the pen in my hand over and over again as the Elders continue to argue about what to do with the Half Moon Pack attacks. There was another one last night. Luckily no one got hurt. I glance at my watch which reads three in the afternoon.
"Send Tristan there," Scarlet's dad, Henry, suggests and the room becomes quiet.
Dad glares at his best friend, "You know we can't do that."
"But if there's a chance it'll stop the attacks..."
"No," Dad puts his hand down on the table.
"Why not?" I ask him, speaking up for the first time during this two hour meeting.
Dad turns his glare on me, "If Tristan sides with them then we lose our greatest weapon."
"Tristan won't side with them. If anything they'd pledge allegiance to him and he can unite us," I point out.
"No. You and Olivia are supposed to do that," Dad reminds me.
"Apparently that's not working. Us dating is not good enough for them," I resist the urge to roll my eyes.
"No it's not. You need to show commitment or you lose them," Dad points at me.
I grit my teeth. As if claiming Olivia as my mate on her full moon isn't enough, they want me to claim her now. I haven't even had a proper chance to talk to Scarlet ever since her transformation. Now that Tristan is gone I hope to see her and try and explain. I don't know why it bothers me so much that she hates me. It's better and easier for the both of us if she does but she deserves the truth. Tristan and Dad and at one point, I agreed not telling her was the best, but I can't stand it anymore.
And then there's Olivia who doesn't know anything so on the night of her transformation if her real mate shows up, we're all screwed.
I just nod at my father, "All in due time."
"You keep saying that. I don't understand what's the hold up," he snaps.
"Give the kid a break. Love is all about timing," Timmy Owen's father, Elder John winks at me.
"I have a plan," I tell the Elders, "don't worry about Olivia. As for the attacks, I think we should send Tristan."
"We already said no to that," Dad says.
"No, you said no. The council didn't vote," I remind him, but I know very well that the council will vote with my father. I need to take matters in my own hands.
Once the meeting is over, I leave the board room and go down to the first floor. Damon is coming into work and I stop him, "Hey, have you heard from Scarlet?"
He looks confused, "Yeah, she's supposed to come by for dinner tonight. She said she's coming home today. Why?"
"Did you talk to her before or after the attack?" I press as dread starts to set in me.
"Before, it was last night...what's going on?" he asks, frowning at this point, "She's fine, she's just dealing with everything."
"I need to see her."
"Why?" Damon asks, before putting his hands up, "Don't mean to be questioning you, just curious. If you must see her, I'd try my parents' house first."
"Thanks for telling me where she is," I tell him before heading out. The second I'm in my car, driving away, I call my brother.
"Caius, not right now. I'm in the middle of a hunt," he says on the first ring in a hushed tone.
