(Scarlet James)
"You look like a puppy that's just been kicked," Anna comments, laughing at me.
I roll my eyes, "I need a drink."
"You tried not to come huh," she teases as she pours me a glass of red wine from the table behind her.
"I tried," I mumble.
She hands me the glass and says, "Well, I'm glad you did or else I'd be here all alone drinking away and probably embarrass myself and make Diana hate me more."
"Honestly, if she doesn't get drunk before us I'll be surprised. The girl has a drink in her hand all the time," I shake my head.
Anna grins, "Can you blame her?"
"No because I have a drink in my hand all the time too," I cling my glass with hers, making her laugh.
"Well, I'm glad she decided to have you guys at the wedding. It's good to have you home," Anna smiles, hugging me.
"It's nice to see everyone again, but I can't wait to leave to be honest," I tell her.
"I know," she replies, "too many memories."
"Yeah," I nod, "just hard to be here."
"I'm sorry. Just a few more days and you get to go home," she promises as I look up toward the wedding party.
It was a mistake because my eyes make contact with a pair of emerald green orbs and suddenly I can't breathe. I turn around, facing the bar and take a huge drink from my glass. I was dreading this moment this entire time I've been in town; the moment I see Caius again after five years.
Anna laughs, oblivious to what just happened, "Whoa, slow down there."
Shit, I'm not even supposed to be drinking. How do I forget that I'm pregnant?
I put the glass down and thank the Lord that they are all preoccupied and Caius can't just come over and talk to me.
But that doesn't stop him later, when everyone is mingling after dinner. He catches me off guard when I just finish a conversation with Timmy's mom.
"You look good," Caius says as he comes to stand before me. He looks good in a gray three piece. He hasn't changed much in five years.
"Thank you, so do you," I reply honestly.
"I heard you're a Knighthunter now," he says, impressed, "that's an accomplishment."
I smile, "Yeah, it just made sense to be one. Tristan and I've been on quite a lot of missions traveling all over the States."
I notice him stiffen slightly at the mention of his brother. I frown and ask, "I don't see Olivia here..."
"She'll be at the wedding," he shrugs a shoulder. I'm surprised they haven't moved in together yet.
"So how are things? Being Alpha and all?" I ask to keep this awkward conversation going.
"Let's just say, not much has changed since you left five years ago," Caius answers me curtly. His gaze, the one I used to love on me, makes me feel uncomfortable, "Nothing has changed."
I shift my weight from one foot to the other, uncomfortably, "A lot has changed though, Caius."
"I can see that," he nods to the ring on my finger.
I look at it too and can't help but smile remembering my engagement night, before remembering who I'm talking to, "Yeah...well, how are you and Olivia? It would've been nice to catch up with her."
